We Love Soaps had the opportunity to visit the new ONE LIFE TO LIFE set in Manhattan on February 16th and tour the new digs. During this time we spoke with several cast members about their current experience on the show, the big move, and reflections on their time in Llanview. We Love Soaps: I always mispronounce your last name!
Gina Tognoni: The “g” is silent. But now, just recently married, it’s “Chiarello”. But I still go by Tognoni for work.
We Love Soaps: So the last time we talked it was right before the big Cramer Women reunion.
Gina Tognoni: Right, we hadn’t even taped one scene yet. Now Kelly has come to Llanview, she’s staying in Llanview. It’s really interesting how this all turns out. The first airdate was February 12th, they were light and simple scenes. Then as we go into the rest of this week [Feb. 22-26] it picks up pace and gets more intense.
We Love Soaps: Anything you can preview for us?
Gina Tognoni: I’m back, Kelly gets some really bad news. The Cramer Women have to come together and support one another. I can’t say anything more than that. There are a lot of cool moments, a lot of cool stuff with Todd [Trevor St. John] coming up.
We Love Soaps: Kelly and Todd?
Gina Tognoni: Kelly and Todd. It’s really fun working with Trevor and Kassie DePaiva, I’m having a blast.
We Love Soaps: Now we talked about Joey Buchanan before, but I had forgotten that when she first came on she had a huge crush on David Vickers at the time.
Gina Tognoni: She went after David, but that never blossomed into a deep love. It was a love/hate. We actually see David Vickers come back this week, Tuc Watkins is a blast.
We Love Soaps: Does Kelly still have a crush on him?
Gina Tognoni: I wouldn’t call it that. We argue a lot now. He moved from a crush to an irritation. Actually David helps Kelly, they actually work very well together.
We Love Soaps: Kelly is a mother.
Gina Tognoni: Zane is in London going to school. Kelly is in Llanview taking care of some business, and then we see whether she stays or goes. She’s in contact with Zane though.
We Love Soaps: You have played two historical characters [Kelly and Dinah Marler on GL].
Gina Tognoni: They are fierce.
We Love Soaps: And they both march to the beat of their own drum. Is that a reflection on you?
Gina Tognoni: I’m not so sure. I tend to be very by-the-book. I like to get it right, I’m very professional, that’s the way Gina is. But I tend to play these characters who think outside the box. I would say Gina is much more conservative than any character I have played.
We Love Soaps: Do you think we’re ever going to learn who Kelly’s father is?
Gina Tognoni: That’s a good question, that’s not something we’ve talked a lot about since I’ve been here. Are you kidding? That’s a wealth of good drama right there.
We Love Soaps: And we don’t know who Blair’s father is either. I think the Cramer Women are great, but it’s funny how the fathers don’t even exist, they don’t seem to bother with them.
Gina Tognoni: That’s why they are so fierce, these girls, and a little troublesome. Their daddies weren’t really there.
