Moving Day With OLTL - Florencia Lozano Interview

We Love Soaps had the opportunity to visit the new ONE LIFE TO LIFE set in Manhattan on February 16th and tour the new digs.  During this time we spoke with several cast members about their current experience on the show, the big move, and reflections on their time in Llanview.  Please enjoy this series of interviews.

FLORENCIA LOZANO ("Tea Delgado")

We Love Soaps: It is such a pleasure to meet you.  I have enjoyed your work on ONE LIFE TO LIVE as well as New York theater.  What is it like for you here at the new studio?
Florencia Lozano: I love it here.  It’s above ground.  Our dressing rooms were in the basement.  Now we see daylight, sunlight, snow.  It’s bigger here, which is kind of nice.

We Love Soaps: Tea is going through a lot of ambivalence this week about her relationship with Todd...again.
Florencia Lozano: And again.  Over and over again.

We Love Soaps: What drives such a strong successful woman to Todd Manning, who is not the most respectful person in the world, to put it diplomatically.
Florencia Lozano: That is diplomatic.  At her core Tea is a damaged individual.  I think in her childhood she suffered.  She came to understand love as a form or rejection.  She thinks that love means being in pain.  There’s  a lot of that with Todd.  Plus all the obvious things, he’s attractive, he’s smart, he’s funny, he’s fun to be with.  But at her core she thinks that if it’s really hard and painful then it must be love.

We Love Soaps: You seem to have a lot insight.  Have you ever been in a similar situation?
Florencia Lozano: I think a lot of women have.  I think a lot of people have.  We’re all damaged goods.  As children we learn what love is and a lot of times that definition is a mixed bag.  So yes, I can relate to that.

We Love Soaps: What made you come back to ONE LIFE TO LIVE after being away for so long?
Florencia Lozano: I had gone and done some theater in film, and it’s interesting to see what it would be like to be back.  I always loved doing this medium.  It’s challenging in ways that others aren’t.

We Love Soaps: How so?
Florencia Lozano: It’s essentially improv.  I mean, yes you learn the lines, but it’s really about being there in the moment with your scene partner and going with it.  It strengthens certain muscles that give me confidence that I can do anything.  And I love melodrama.  I love the highs and lows.

We Love Soaps: We sure enjoy watching it.  Any theater or outside projects coming up?
Florencia Lozano: I actually wrote a play.  I believe it’s going to be produced in Argentina this summer, and then produced in New York in Fall or Winter.

We Love Soaps: Anything you can tell us about what’s coming up for Tea in the next few weeks?
Florencia Lozano: Tea is going to be lawyering, heavily, which I love.

We Love Soaps: Do you like those long long courtroom speeches?
Florencia Lozano: The long long speeches not so much.  But I like that this woman who is so emotionally tortured is so black and white in her work.  There’s a real structure to everything she does because it’s according to the law.  She finds great comfort and confidence in that.  And it’s playing that cocky, no-one-is-going-to-get-in-my-way career woman.  Because underneath that she’s got a lot going on.  But when she goes into that mode, it takes her away from certain elements.
