This year Tony Awards broadcast unfortunately did not include the an In Memoriam segment, though the video was shown to guests at Radio City Music Hall. The video below remembers those in the Broadway community who left us from May 2013-May 2014, including Julie Harris, Phyllis Frelich, Michael Filerman and James Gandolfini.
I have a question-- was there some type of reaction to the In Memoriam segment being omitted from the TV broadcast? I know the Tonys tend to be a bit underrated compared to the Oscars (I could imagine the reaction this would have had they decided to omit this section from the Oscars broadcast!) .
ReplyDeleteFor years, I've thought they should include the In Memoriam segments as well as extended interviews, backstage on the official website, whether or not it airs on the TV broadcast. I know there has been furor with people being left out and I think an unabridged version of the In Memoriam should go on the official website, so everyone can at least be recognized on the website, if not on TV.
I hope there will be a proper In Memoriam for the Daytime Emmy's live stream.
