NEWS: No 3D for Dark Shadows, Jon Blake, Gina Tognoni, DEGRASSI

Aussie actor, Jon Blake dies at 52 after long years in bed
He was once hailed Australia’s “next Mel Gibson” while at the peak of his career in the late 1980s. But an unfortunate road accident had left Jon Blake permanently incapacitated as he was described in ‘near-vegetative state” until his death Sunday. He was 52.

Blake appeared in a number of TV series including soap opera THE RESTLESS YEARS and ANZACS.

Tim Burton's Dark Shadows will not be in 3D‎
“I’m just starting, and it’s a weird tone and it’s a lot of actors and, you know, we’re not starting with the simple stuff; we’re sort of getting right in there. You like to kind of sneak up on it a little bit, but this one we just kind of slammed right into it. [asked if it will have a soap opera quality] Yes, I don’t know. I’m early into it because it’s a funny tone, and that’s part of what the vibe of the show is, and there’s something about it that we want to get. But when you look at it, it’s pretty bad. I’m hoping that it will be — it’s early days, let’s put it — I’m very intrigued by the tone. It’s a real ethereal tone we’re trying to go for and I don’t know yet.”

Aiden Turner talks about his role on SINGLE LADIES
"My character is Sebastian Caliente, a male model," Turner tells Soaps In Depth. "He attends this event at a clothing boutique, and has been looking at Val [played by Dash] the entire night and eventually bumps into her. He tells her he's been wanting to talk to her and asks for her number."

Gina Tognoni also leaving ONE LIFE TO LIVE early
Per a recent Robin Strasser tweet: "Have no control over how they'll write Dorian/Kelly off by July 1- I haven't had significant story in years-hoping they'll do D. and K.good."

  1. Well, it doesn't really sound like Tim Burton knows what "Dark Shadows" is from this quote. Hope he has more of a vision for this project than it appears.

  2. Is this Confused Tuesday? I'm not sure who is more confused me or Tim since he sounds pretty confused which makes me confused.

  3. What Johnny & Tim don't seem to get is that most of the actors in the original cast "played it straight" meaning the characters were all terrible serious and mostly low key.
Only a few were allowed to be really emotional and have have ups and downs. It provided a certain tension and contrast to the more serious characters. The mistique is about the time of year ( fall) and the gloomy( moody) stormy weather we often saw on the original show.
The 70's styled furniture choices and the dark Victorian setting of the interior of the various properties @ Collinwood only added to that certain something that seems to be eluding the new production team.Free tips for Johnny & Timmy: Film it in the fall, take advantage of parts of the country that have spectacular fall scenery. Transition scenes into November making things darker and slightly more sinister,we'd expect to see fog at this time of year as well. They can pull it off but it's essential that they avoid trying to be campy & cute.

  4. Most likely Burton will go the 'funny' route with Dark Shadows. I don't think he really understands the charm and allure of the original. If anything I'd almost rather see a movie about the making of the soap with Depp as the actor who played Barnabas.. but that never works either (see also: Bewitched). It'll be gorey and crazy and probably funny and incredibly popular.. but it won't be authentic Dark Shadows. Surely he knows that there are feature movies available for him to watch that had a budget (I've not seen them but they must have overcome some of the 'mic in the shot' problems that the live show did)

As for Kelly/Dorian.. dunno.. it seems like Llanview is emptying out fairly early.. not sure what to make of that. It's like they're removing story.. but what will we be left with? Please don't tell me that the Fords will rush in to fill in the storyline gaps opened up by Kelly/Dorian departures. I might just welcome cancellation then! LOL
