Lucci on Leno: 'Our Fans Are On Fire'

Susan Lucci appeared on THE TONIGHT SHOW last night and talked to Jay Leno about the ALL MY CHILDREN cancellation. Lucci shared her excitement with Agnes Nixon being involved in writing the show's ending and praised viewers saying, "Our fans are on fire."

Said Lucci: "I was completely blindsided. I had just started the book tour. I had been to cities all over the country meeting thousands and thousands of people enthusiastic, so excited about the show. I had no idea. I found out five minutes before. I received a call from Brian Frons, the Vice President of Daytime television, asking me to come upstairs to the producer's office. I kind of knew something was going on because when I went up the stairs there were a lot of very seriously dressed executives coming down. I was shocked. I've seen productions on both coasts now, both the New York company production taken away from New York, hundreds of people. And now here in Los Angeles. Agnes Nixon has been welcomed back in to writing her own show and we're going out with the hands we came in on."

Watch it below.

Part 1: Lucci talks about being blindsided by the cancellation of AMC.

Part 2: Lucci talks about the upcoming surprises on AMC and rumors she's joining DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.

  1. Susan Lucci is a class act and a very talented actress. Daytime TV will never be the same without her. Who in their right minds would choose 'The Chew' and 'The Revolution' over Erika Kane, Dorian Lord, & Vikki Lord Buchanan'??

  2. Please, please, please NBC pick up these beloved soaps! I am a 48 year old who watches All My Children every day. It is my escape from the real world. Please not another cooking or weight loss show!!! Please! I love you Susan!

  3. Please NBC pick up our Favorite Soaps. We are so passionate about our Soap Operas and to have them slip away from us is unthinkable! There is a huge Fan Base and we want to keep our favorite shows alive for another 40 years!

  4. All I have to say about this is I hope that ABC reconsiders it's bone head decision, 40 percent less, okay then cut the Soap budget, make them shorter, do more outside, not every cast member has to be a millionare cute some of the scenery budget. It can be done, but ABC is not brave enough, to see the upside or the benefit in doing it. So bring on the crapy shows and loose your audience altogether. Let NBC pick up the shows and reep the benefits of gaining viewers!

  5. Really, gaze upon Ms. Susan Lucci and then mariobatali...who do you think viewers would rather spend an hour looking at?? I don't care if batali could pull a fully baked lasagna out of his rather substantial butt...La Lucci would win every time. I wouldn't want to be ebenezer frons when the ghosts of christmas Past and Future come for him.

  6. You know what? IF I didn't give a crap about my clientele, I could serve a can of tuna on the same plate with a hamburger and call it "Surf and Turf". A. no one would buy it for top dollar (or otherwise). B. it certainly would not be pulling in additional business. Frons is no REAL businessman, he is merely a corporate hack trying to justify his own bloated salary by putting up cheap shows. Riiight, the RACE-TO-THE-BOTTOM strategy has certainly worked with the economy (NAFTA outsourcing jobs in exchange for cheap chinamart junk)...NOT! Suits like frons don't care about the repercussions of their thought-less actions, it only matters that they make their money and get out while the thing crashes and burns behind them. Ultimately this entire debacle isn't about anything except the suits blowing up the entire mountain to get at one lousy lump of coal...for themselves. GREED sucks.

  9. it's not over until it's over. Yes, Susan, your fans are on fire. We are fighting to save AMC and OLTL. We are sick of reality t.v. Sheer greed on ABC's part. The soaps have survived over 40 years, these cheaper shows to produce come and go. We have the buying power and we will support whoever picks up our soaps. Do you hear that ABC? Watch your ratings suffer and disney stock plunge. Don't give up soap fans, let's keep fighting.

  10. Susan, yes we are trying to keep soaps on tv. I love what you said on Jay Leno. I have watch you since you first aired the show. We are also upset because our age group is not included in the ratings. Just think if they were the two soaps ratings would be very high. Anyone older than 49 is being discriminated against. I really think ABC open a can of worms.

  11. Erica Kane and the people of Pine Valley have been a part of my life since 1970. NBC please pick up our soaps mainly because I do not believe ABC is going to be around much longer. Chew on that Mr Frons.

  12. NBC I hope you consider picking up 2 shows that ABC was foolish to cancel. A classy lady such as Ms. Lucci, and many of her ABC soap opera daytime colleagues, are sure to please the viewers of your channel. I do not usually even watch Leno, but I made sure to DVR the episode, as she was on it. I enjoyed the interview and really will miss Ms. Lucci and both shows but I am optimistic NBC sees that there is some profit to gain by taking them. A loyal fan base of millions is something to surely sweeten the pot.

  13. Yes your fans are fired up and ready to go to bat for their Soaps! If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything...

  14. What a classy lady. The interview with Leno was great and though I have spent 40 plus years with a love /hate relationship for her I cannot believe that ABC is this stupid to let these shows go. Both shows have strong fanbases and the opera isn't over yet. On fire is just too mild a term...seething, foaming at the mouth, where are these people's head especially Brian Frons, what an arrogant man!

  16. I hope NBC will pick up our soaps. I will never choose to watch the "chew and the revolution". I watch these shows every day after work like most women I know. We work and can't watch during the day. ABC may have made a choice. But I can choose too. And if these shows go...I will go to another channel.

  17. ABC is losing lifetime loyal fans! We don't want to lose these soaps. It would be fantastic if NBC picked them up - I would switch, not only for soaps but from my local ABC affiliate news/weather to our local NBC30, which is just as good! :)

  18. Loved to watch the interview. I only watch AMC & OLTL on ABC. Boycotting everything else ABC.

  19. That was a GREAT interview. I totally support AMC and OLTL and want them to stay on the air. I think those new shows will be monumental flops and I will be laughing my you know what off when they do. Susan is a wonderful actress and so are the rest of the casts of both shows. LOVE THEM ALL!.
