THR.com is
reporting that Univision Communications' digital unit on Monday unveiled plans to launch an online and mobile channel for telenovelas, dubbed "Novelas y Series" (Novelas and Series), this year on Univision.com.
The launch follows the website's originally produced webnovela VIDAS CRUZADAS (Crossed Lives) and comes as Hispanic audiences have shown an increasing appetite for digital content.
"We have significantly increased our focus on the importance of video, and we are excited about the opportunity to offer our online and mobile audience high quality novela programming from leading content producers around the world," said Kevin Conroy, president of Univision Interactive Media.
As a "hub for novela enthusiasts," the channel will also include the latest telenovela news, celebrity gossip, behind-the-scenes footage and message boards.
