INDIE SOAP BEAT: February 26, 2010

In this week's "Indie Soap Beat" feature we reveal the latest happenings from around the world of independent soap opera and web series production. Click the show logos to visit the official websites.

ALL'S FAIRE, which features former GUIDING LIGHT star Rob Bogue as Sir Robert, has released a hilarious new "F. Your Consideration" video for the Streamy Awards. You can watch it here. The musical video makes references to not having any big name sponsors or big name stars (including Bogue).

ANACOSTIA has aired its season finale but the cast is still making the press rounds. Look for interviews coming up on DCTV next Thursday and Saturday. Also, Indie Soap Award nominee Anthony Anderson and company will be in New York on Saturday taping an appearance for an upcoming episode of WE LOVE SOAPS TV.

STEAMBOAT released a trailer and the first episode last week and fans seem to like it so far. The show is a comedy series described as "THE OFFICE meets ALL MY CHILDREN" with Kim Zimmer starring as the executive producer if a dying soap. The second episode was released today. The soap spoofed on the show is hilariously brought to you by Lactene.

ANYONE BUT ME returned with an all new episode on February 23. GOSSIP GIRL actress Liza Weil guest starred as Aster's (Nicole Pacent) therapist. Pacent has also joined the cast of new feature film and episodic series, Queens of the World.

Is it a coincidence that the more we see of Jessica Leccia on VENICE the better the show gets? The past few episodes have capitalized on what seemed like the initial premise of following the lives of Gina and Ani. Also doing a fabulous job on the series as Guya is Emmy winner Hillary B. Smith. She explained how the show sniffing bit from the second episode came to be on this week's episode of WE LOVE SOAPS TV.

Winner for Best Indie Soap at the 1st Annual Indie Soap Awards, DIARY OF A SINGLE MOM, released another new episode on Thursday titled "The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth." Ocean faces her big fear about college and is hoping for family support. Uncle Bo gives her sage advice. Peggy's sister, Jewel, finally pays her a long awaited visit. Later, a trip to the doctor reminds Peggy how inept she is at navigating her new "class of poverty." Lupe and Ocean, thankfully, are always there to "school" her.

THE LIKE US SHOW is a new radio soap opera that debuted on Feb. 1 on the web and several radio stations around the country. New shows will air every weekday at 7 p.m. ET. Set on the campus of the fictional Atlanta University, LIKE US tells the dramatic story of the lives of the students of this Historical Black University. The show has now aired 19 episodes.

Fraternity Massacre At Hell Island, a movie from ON THE EDGE OF HAPPINESS creator Mark Jones, will be released on DVD on April 20. Several EOH actors appear in the film including Indie Soap Award nominee Helen Bowman and Corie Ventura. Editor Ryan Parker also edited the film. You can watch the trailer here.

CHICK released the show's 14th episode on Monday. Lisa discovers there are others looking for the secret academy. You can watch it here. Look for the We Love Soaps interview with creator/writer/director/star Kai Soremekun soon. If you haven't watched Soremekun's brilliant Indie Soap Awards Best Directing acceptance speech, you can find it here.

IN THE MOMENT aired a new episode on Wednesday, "Tempting Proposals." The re-emergence of Edgar's drug and sex addiction threatens his friendship with Shawn, while Stephen and Mike contemplate moving back in together. For those not familiar with the show, it is part of an HIV prevention campaign of the LA Gay & Lesbian Center and City of West Hollywood.

The next episode of GOTHAM will air on March 1 and will featuring the opening song, "Love Makes The World Go 'Round," performed as a duet between Byrne and Michael Park. Kin Shriner will be back and we'll see more of the fabulous Melanie Smith.
