WLS Daytime Emmy Press Room Coverage: GH Writers

The GENERAL HOSPITAL writing team won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series at Sunday's Daytime Emmy ceremony in Los Angeles. Associate Head Writer Elizabeth Korte was the spokesperson for the group but other writers answered questions as well. Noticeably absent was Head Writer Bob Guza. When asked by We Love Soaps' Damon L. Jacobs twice about the level of violence on GH, Korte explained it was never their intention to glamorize it, saying they wanted their stories to show the consequences of the violence including the now Emmy winning episode in which Michael was shot.

  1. Damon's question was really smart and obviously threw the writer's off their game in the press room. I know we won't see Mary Hart asking a question that insightful at the primetime emmy's. In fact, it is rare to see entertainment press ever ask writers about the ramifications of their writing and how it affects their audience. As a result, I am sure people like Pratt and Guza nver think about how the audience will interpret their stories, they only think about the entertainment value of the story.

    Good for you Damon!

  2. Not to mention the fact that this is an ensemble show its a soap not a show about 2 men and that is why their ratings are going down their not including the rich history that GH has to offer.

  3. Isis steps up on soapbox...

Dear Writers of GH...since you acknowledge that you have a phenomenal cast...then ACTUALLY WRITE FOR ALL OF THE CAST! Tell stories that deal with ALL of the families not just one or two people on the show. And stop leaving out or killing off veteran characters that actually add to the diversity and integrity of the show *ie the Quartermaines, Webbers, Spencers*

btw...it's TACKY to put your Emmy in scenes of said show.

    steps down from soapbox.

  4. Thanks, folks, especially DocP. Mary Hart wouldn't ask these questions, but she does have much better legs than me!
