News Round-up: Thorsten, Mulcahey, EJ, Kinkead

INTERVIEW: Soap writer Patrick Mulcahey
"SANTA BARBARA was the most important job I have ever had as a writer, and where I found myself as a writer. However, I don’t think it was the greatest soap that has ever aired. When I wrote GL, first with Douglas and then later with Stephen and Nancy, both times that show was, in my opinion, the greatest soap opera ever."

Here's a switch: EJ wising up on DAYS OF OUR LIVES
EJ finally confronts Nicole about her bizarre behavior Friday on DAYS OF OUR LIVES.

"I guess he's no longer an idiot," says Arianne Zucker, who plays EJ's scheming wife, Nicole. "He finally sees there is something very wrong about her behavior."

AMC actors have a week to decide to move, Kaye unsure
"They've given us one week to decide," says Thorsten Kaye (Zach), whose partner, Susan Haskell, toils on "OLTL" as Marty. "I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'm not the kind of dad who wants to be 3,000 miles away from my kids. And it's not exactly the best time to sell real estate."

That said, "I think the move shows that ABC has a lot of belief in 'AMC' and wants to keep it going," says Kaye.

INTERVIEW: GL's Maeve Kinkead (Vanessa)
"I think people are attracted to that sense of knowing characters, that continuity. Just as I look around the set and realize that there are people I’ve known for 30 years, I’m sure viewers must feel the same way about the characters – lots of them have been right there with us, the whole time. It’s really touching."

Laurence Fishburne will appear on all 3 CSIs in 1 week this fall
The former ONE LIFE TO LIVE actor will crossover onto CSI: NEW YORK and CSI: MIAMI.

  1. One week? Holy crap.
They're not starting to tape in LA 'til January, right?
I really feel for the crew behind the scenes.

  2. Unfortunately though they are probably writing at least a few months ahead so they need to know who is and isn't going to be around in order to continue writing. But I do agree that a week isn't much time to make a huge life-changing decision.

  3. I was just about to say that Roger. Soaps are so ahead in their writing, I can completely understand why they need an answer so quickly. Is it fair, maybe not. But its the nature of the beast.

The show is moving in December, production starts in January. The show needs to know if an actor is not making the move to LA so they have time to either recast a character or write a character off the canvas.

I'm anxious to see who is going to make the move.

  4. Thanks for pointing us to the Mulcahey and Kinkead reviews, sad though they are in the context of GL's demise. I've been looking in on GL from time to time over the last few weeks after nearly 10 years (San Cristobal and the Santos family finally drove me away) and just realized this week that Kinkead has dropped her "Vanessa voice," that distinctive edge she used. Wish she had had the chance in the interview to say something about William Roerick, who's still much missed (and it would have been great to hear more from Mulcahey about Mary Stuart -- sounded like there were come stories there!).

I have to add thanks to We Love Soaps for remembering the departed vets right along with today's flavor of the month.
