Tuesday Possible Pre-Emption Alert

ABC, NBC, Fox, CNN, MSNBC, E! Entertainment and TV Guide Network plan to carry the Michael Jackson memorial service live at 10am PT (1pm ET) on Tuesday. ABC and NBC will pre-empt regularly scheduled daytime programming for live coverage.

CBS News will broadcast THE EARLY SHOW live from Staples on Tuesday. CBS has not definitively said they will air live coverage of the memorial (yet).

  1. THis has nothing to do with the soap pre-emption but I can't believe that this is news. The world is in the condition that it's in and the death of a pop star is worthy of this kind of attention. Just makes me sick

  2. Chele, I hear you. I've been debating this one in my head. On one had, a celebrity death probably shouldn't be such big news that it trumps programming on every channel. But in this case, they are expecting millions in L.A. for the funeral and the massive crowd is the type of spectacle that TV loves.

Like with most of these stories, I feel like the news channels cover them well and they don't need to be on broadcast TV all day long. Since it's a planned event, I don't consider this "breaking" news. I just get the feeling the networks would love something to go "wrong" so they'll be there to cover it.

  3. I feel bad for poor Farrah Fawcett, I turned my channel to E the weekend she passed away they were supposed to be showing her life story, instead though they had a Michael Jackson memorial on the poor girl has been forgotten about. I loved Michael Jackson as much as the next guy but this media attention is getting crazy.
