News Round-up: Ken Corday, Joshua Morrow, Otalia

More Ken Corday on GL
Ken Corday, DAYS's executive producer, spoke to Soap Opera Digest exclusively about the cancellation of GL in the next issue. "The insight I have into the show is kind of historic in that maybe I was 3 or 4 when dad took it from radio to TV," he explains. "It should be remembered that the show was created by the best soap writer ever, Irna Phillips — it was the pioneer. It's a damn shame that this show is gone, as it's still a damn shame that ANOTHER WORLD is gone. The flip side of it is that you cannot reinvent the wheel."

Deep Soap: Crazy In Love
Sara Bibel writes: "It finally happened. For months Otalia fans have waited for Olivia and Natalia to admit their feelings for each other. Tuesday’s Guiding Light did not disappoint. Able to take it no more, Olivia went to the cemetary to pour her heart out at Gus’s gravesite. In a beautifully written speech, she told Gus that when she received his transplanted heart, she also received his feelings for Natalia. Crystal Chappel deserves every accolade available for her performance. It seemed effortless though I’m sure it was anything but. This was one of those moments when I understood what all the actors mean about how the new shooting style makes their work more naturalistic. I felt like I was eavesdropping rather than watching a scene on a television show."

INTERVIEW: Y&R's Joshua Morrow (Nick)
"Michelle told me, 'You have the toughest job in this one, because it’s hard to get any sympathy from the viewers if you are going about it in this way.' It’s not very believable to have people seeing him saying, 'I am committed to you Phyllis,' and on the other hand he is with Sharon. It’s not easy to do.

"I am not concerned, because my job is not to be palatable to the audience. I want to tell a convincing story. I have never been a man in love with two women. I can only imagine what that must be like."

SAG's Rosenberg blasts board's moderates
The infighting at SAG just won't stop. Even as the guild closes in on an agreement to end its long-running contract drama with the majors, Screen Actors Guild prexy Alan Rosenberg has taken the unusual step of blasting his political opponents via the official SAG Screen Actor magazine.

The quarterly publication, usually dominated by positive articles about the guild, began arriving this week in members' mailboxes. In it Rosenberg blisters the yet-to-be-concluded deal and its proponents -- who gained control of the board last fall by a slim majority.

"I truly believe we would have had a deal last summer if this faction had not undermined our efforts and de-leveraged us against our real opponent: management," Rosenberg said.

Carolyn Hennesy promotes new book
Hennesy has recently released the third book in her Pandora series - "Pandora Gets Jealous". The books follow the misadventures of the 13-year-old Pandy as she tries to contain all the havoc unleashed when the special box at her home on Mount Olympus is accidentally opened. She spoke with the Fox affiliate in Atlanta about the project.

Global ad spend to pick up next year
The sharp decline in global advertising spending will continue this year, but growth should be on the horizon for 2010 if economic stimulus packages in the U.S. and other countries provide the necessary kickstart. No region will be exempt from the downturn in ad spend, but the U.S. and Western Europe are predicted to suffer from a steeper decline than envisaged in December, according to the latest survey of international advertising by ZenithOptimedia.

Lauren Koslow spotted on AMERICAN IDOL last night
If you spotted DAYS's Lauren Koslow (Kate) in the audience at AMERICAN IDOL last night, your eyes weren't deceiving you. She and 18-year-old daughter, Milikate, were on hand to root for their fave performer. "We are HUGE Adam Lambert fans," the actress tells Digest. "It was absolutely fabulous. He was so fantastic. The audience was just almost not able to be controlled. He's really amazing and is going to be an amazing superstar."

  1. Please, please stop linking the Corday stuff. His inability to appreciate the irony of what he is saying is ... killing me.

(I'm not being honest. I can't wait to read what he says next).

  2. i found sara's take on the scenes yesterday to be very interesting. that eavesdropping feeling that she spoke about is completely because of the production model- the much maligned production model. it has allowed all of us to feel like we were there through all this otalia build-up. it- and crystal chappell and jill lorie hurst- are the reasons i still feel like i was physically punched in the gut.

i feel like i'm in animal house "thank you, sir, may i have another?"
