News Brief

Corrieblog: No real-life wedding bells for "Coronation Street's" Sarah and Jason.

Digital Spy: "Coronation Street" bosses want Bruno Langley to return to the soap on a full-time basis. Langley, 24, who plays Todd Grimshaw in the Manchester-based soap, has recently returned for 12 episodes to feature in the wedding storyline concerning his onscreen brother Jason (Ryan Thomas) and Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien).

MyParkMag: "Hollyoaks" actress Gemma Merna has revealed her desire to win a top award for her role as Carmel McQueen. The 23-year-old told the Daily Star that she wants the public to "take more notice" of her soap and hopes a gong at the National Television Awards will help with this goal. "I'm telling anyone who will listen to pick up the phone and vote for me. I really want this one, not just for me but for "Hollyoaks" because I think we don't get the credit we deserve," she remarked. "People just see us as a teen soap but we've got an amazing cast of great actors. If I win it will make people take notice of what we're doing." Gemma will be competing in the category of Most Popular Newcomer, against "Coronation Street's" Kym Ryder, "Emmerdale's" Joseph Gilgun and Jo Joyner of "EastEnders."

TV Guide Canada: Nelson Branco names soaps' best super-couples.

AfterElton: This week in Gay TV.

The Journal: Chrishell Stause didn’t think she had a chance when she auditioned for “All My Children.” After all, it was her first professional audition in Los Angeles (her first cross-country move). “I didn’t put a lot of pressure on myself about it, because I didn’t think I could get my first job on my first audition,” she says. But two weeks later the producers at “AMC” said they liked what they saw. They flew her to New York, where the daytime drama films, for a screen test. It was the Draffenville, Ky., native’s first trip to the Big Apple. Gemma will be competing in the category of Most Popular Newcomer, against "Coronation Street's" Kym Ryder, Emmerdale's Joseph Gilgun and Jo Joyner of "EastEnders."

NY Daily News: Viki turns up on "One Life to Live" today after a two-month absence, and she has been in Paris, alright: Paris, Tex. "It's incredibly clever," says Erika Slezak, who plays Viki. "She took Dorian's advice. The last scenes they had together were at Asa's funeral when they got locked in the wine cellar together. Dorian got [ticked] off and said, 'What are you going to do with the rest of your life?' and it got Viki thinking. She went to the airport and said, 'Anywhere. Let's just get out of here.'"

Savoring Soaps: Can Guiding Light and As The World Turns Survive The Big Change? There's nothing soap fans hate more than change. Whether a show's longtime leading teen is recast with a skinnier actress or the show suddenly changes dramatic style with the entrance of a new headwriter, viewers freak out because what they have always prized about daytime drama is its continuity and constancy. Now, in 2007, soaps have shrinking budgets to correspond with miniscule ratings. So some soaps have to make big, big changes - or they will face cancellation.

PGP Blog: Beginning on Thursday, October 25 at 10:00 PM, "Guiding Light" will be featured in the new season of MTV’s Run’s House as daughter Vanessa Simmons enters the world of daytime television. Tune in every Thursday afterwards to catch all the drama, including scenes with Lawrence Saint-Victor (Remy) and EJ Bonilla (Rafe).
