Guy Wilson on His 'Days of our Lives' Exit: "It Was All Purely Business"

Guy Wilson
Guy Wilson spoke to Soap Opera Digest about leaving Days of our Lives and the role of Will Horton. He says being let go was "more about giving the show a total overall facelift in general."

[WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD]

Will Horton becomes the third victim of Necktie Killer.

"All the characters who have fallen victim to the serial killer, none of it had to do with problems with the actor or personality," Wilson explains. "It was all purely business, and it was all in an effort to revitalize the show and create story space to bring back some iconic characters like Bo and Patch."

Wilson says "the writers elected to move away from the storyline I was in and refocus on the storylines that were really popular for this show in years past."

The actor believes "all things come to a close" but was "sad to know that this wonderful period in my career was coming to a close."

  1. I admit to wanting a recast but sad they are killing Will off the show.

    2. Sure you are. Should've been a recast, but it gave me an excuse to dump a show I no longer enjoy. Goodbye, Days! I won't miss you. Ever. I will no longer support all soaps if I feel the soap does not support my interests. I'm going to watch Emmerdale instead. Already love it!

  3. Guy Wilson was a bad choice for recasting WIll and that is the reason for his killing.

    1. I doubt it's that simple. There are other actors, after all. Not everyone is employed!

And that is going to be the biggest problem moving forward IMO. The show needed Will, reliving the 80's is going to prove to be a dead end.

    1. i agree. it's cool to bring back some of the cast from the past, etc., but in order to move "forward", i feel like the storyline with Will and Sonny was a big plus for the soap opera. it opened many doors, etc., plus i like Guy Wilson. DOOL needs Will.

    2. DOOL disagrees. Let's see if they can own it! They could always bring Will back, but clueless KC says all people who die on DOOL will now stay dead. Famous last words!

  5. Ridiculous that they are killing Will!! I also agree #hatewins

  6. Totally agree! It had nothing to do with anything other than Will's sexual orientation. I'm done with Days for good! It won't be around after next year anyway! #hatewins

  7. It is a Major mistake to do away with the story line of Gay Characters, and the life style. It seams the story line is a total change and maybe be the Death of DOOL in the future. I got hooked on the show a few years back BUT now it is wearing it self out with strange story lines . I wish it the best but as soon as the 50th is over i am sure i will find something to do during the time slot!

  8. Big mistake days, that is like the worse move you could make, killing of sami bradys firstborn son and destroying a beautiful love story between sonny and will, they could have make him leave town like sonny, why the hell kill him off, that is just so so wrong... #BringWillBack , the will and sonny story line was what got me hooked back to Days, now they have ruined this

  9. Purely business?! I don't think Guy knows how we really feel. Those comments leave no doubt for me that Guy Wilson was the wrong choice to play Will Horton. Killing Will was a huge mistake. I don't care if Days survives or doesn't at this point. I will NEVER watch Days again. No 50th for me without Will Horton! Goodbye Days!

  13. His comments make me SO glad Guy Wilson is gone, but I cared for the character of Will Horton -- not the actor portraying him! The worst thing to happen to WH besides being killed off in a subpar serial killer debacle is GW!!! JMO as a former long-term Days viewer.

  14. Guy Wilson is the only Will I've known. Will's a frustratingly messed up charactor but I've come to see why he's an important part of Salem. I can't believe they made this choice ! Will is the next generation of a legacy family !

  15. This makes no sense to me. Freddie Smith opted not to renew his contract and they sent Sonny off to Paris in mid August. And here two months later, they're firing Guy Wilson and killing off Will? TWO months later?!?!

If they wanted rid of Guy Wilson, they could have easily had Will and Sonny leave town together. Go to Paris and start fresh as a couple. Either they could have left together in August, or Sonny could have come back for a couple of episodes in October and convinced Will to come to Paris.

There is no reason to kill off a legacy character just because the actor playing him was poorly cast. This just reeks of homophobia.

  16. The DAYS brass was being kind to Guy. The real reason has to be that he just wasn't bringing it in his performance. If Freddie had stayed they probably would have written a story for Sonny and Paul, but now Paul will need someone new unless Freddie returns full-time or they recast Sonny.

    1. If Paul doesn't suddenly realize he's straight, I think they'll show him the same door GW was shown! I'm not confident that Days will ever really feature another gay character prominently or a gay SL per se. I think this is the end of equality for Days in a sense, not diversity tho. The show will maintain a glimpse of ethnic characters/actors. But I digress and you are right about GW being "clueless", although you didn't put it so blunt. I laughed out loud when I read his comments. Naive? Maybe. Clueless? Definitely!

    2. I hope Days will keep a "couple" of gay characters on the canvas, but I just have doubts. If they planned to do this, why kill Will Horton off? He was, despite GW's painful acting, the iconic gay character for Days of Our Lives! For that reason, the sands have finally drained out of the hourglass for me and in a performance more dramatic than GW's best performance ever, I bid Days farewell!!!

  17. I would rather them bring Chandler back instead of killing Will off. Chandler made the story great and Guy just did not fit into the part right. I am sorry this is a big mistake on DOOL choice to kill Will off. I think they just ruined the show for me.

    1. RIP Will Horton. Sorry it's not debatable. Will was killed off today in a brutal, graphic fashion that will make it hard for the iconic character to EVER be brought back. It also marked the end of a decade of watching Days for me. RIP DOOL 2015

  18. In my opinion, Chandler Massey was the only Will, however he was not the one who originated the role. Guy Wilson did the best he could with what he was given, however, he failed to capture the audience and gain any popularity. I don't agree with killing the character off; there should have definitely been a re-cast. Now we are left with Paul, the remaining gay character not having a story line.
