  1. So Roger - Do you think this signals the end of the impact that Delia's Death has had on Y&R's ratings as predicted in your 10/15/13 commentary on the state-of-the-show and "event-driven drama?"

    1. It's hard to say because it's Spring and lots of shows are down on TV. But Y&R's problem IMO is that it's boring. When I think about the female leads from the history of this great show from Lorie Brooks to Nikki Reed Newman to Ashley Abbott and then compare them to Chelsea, Chloe and Avery, it's no wonder the show is hitting lows. Y&R missed a great opportunity by not telling a proper story after Katherine's death. The Delia story was for short-term gain, and probably an Emmy for Billy Miller, but now Miller, Muhney and soon Hendrickson will all be gone and it's over. With all that said, it still comes back to the stories being dull. Instead of writing some complex long-term stories, I would bet Y&R is currently plotting to steal a GH actress to play Phyllis. #WrongPriorities

I am not a very cynical person but Y&R has become what ATWT and other canceled shows were at the end, a shell of its former self and a generic anysoap, not the lush drama that was a cut above. There's will be some good and even great moments and a lot of mediocre, and that's too bad. I wish one of Bill Bell's protege's was in charge. Luckily the show will be around for a while so there's always hope, although I don't think anyone in charge at the moment, including CBS, thinks there's anything wrong, so I suspect more of the same is coming.

I wish Victoria Rowell could come back. She could turn even the most boring script into something special. And Jamie Lyn Bauer as Lorie Brooks, who could be a friend to Victor and run the local newspaper that Fen will eventually work for. :)

  2. Y&R is horrible. But then so is GH!

  3. I try not to be a cynic as well. But I haveta admit, some days while watching, I really don't feel like I'm watching Y&R any more. And it's not just all the new characters in town. That old Y&R "feeling" is fading even faster than before. And on whether the show is "boring" or not ... I'd have to say that, while it has it's moments (mainly due to the acting talent of its veteran cast), I'd be hard-pressed to convince a new viewer to start watching the show. Even former viewers who I know, who still occasionally ask or want to discuss the show with me, have failed to find anything that draws them back in. And I know from my personal experience, that there are three other soaps that I regularly watch (two of them foreign) that I actually look forward to watching, usually with great anticipation. I don't have that feeling with Y&R any longer on any type of consistent basis. Too often it's like a chore.

    1. I agree with you! I finally kicked the habit of watching this show. It feels like JFP's haven for her pets and nothing like the Y&R we know and love. MAB was a bad writer but there was still some semblance of Y&R's history which is not felt with JFP's reign of terror to be honest!
