Sandra Oh Leaving GREY'S ANATOMY

Sandra Oh has decided to leave GREY'S ANATOMY at the end of the show's upcoming 10th season.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, which first broke the news, Oh said, “Creatively, I really feel like I gave it my all, and I feel ready to let her go. It’s such an interesting thing to play a character for so long and to actually get the sense that she wants to be let go as well. [Cristina] wants to be let go, and I am ready to let her go. We have to start the process, story-wise, for the GREY's writers to think of why she’s going to go.”

Oh has played Dr. Cristina Yang since the very first GREY'S ANATOMY episode in 2005.

"It won't be until the end of the season," said GREY'S creator Shonda Rhimes. "The minute Sandra and I started talking about this, we have a story that we want to tell and we want to tell it really well, and that story isn't about her leaving the show as much as it is Cristina Yang's growth as a person and as a surgeon. Cristina Yang is not going to magically decide she wants babies, no."

This also may or may not be the last season for original castmembers Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Justin Chambers and Chandra Wilson.

Rhimes said recently she did not expect contract negotiations to go down to the wire like they did in 2012. "I spoke to [ABC Studios] and asked really clearly that I know sooner rather than later," she shares. "Last time they kept me guessing up until almost the last minute, which was really stressful. This time I asked to know much sooner, so that we could plan for it."
