PREVIEW: SMASH Two-Hour Season 2 Premiere

NBC's musical drama SMASH makes its much-anticipated return with a two-hour episode on February 5 at 9 p.m. ET.

Back from a successful run in Boston, Eileen (Anjelica Huston), Julia (Debra Messing) and Tom (Christian Borle) are blindsided by both personal and professional obstacles as they seek to take "Bombshell" to Broadway.

Karen (Katharine McPhee) consults her new mentor, Broadway star Veronica "Ronnie" Moore (guest star Jennifer Hudson), as she finds herself on the brink of fame, but her success may come at cost to Ivy (Megan Hilty).

A new talent (Jeremy Jordan) is discovered in an unexpected place.

Meanwhile, Derek (Jack Davenport) copes with a damaging accusation.



Leslie Odom, Jr., Andy Mientus and Krysta Rodriguez also star. Jennifer Hudson, Harvey Fierstein, Thorsten Kaye, and Brian d'Arcy James guest star.

SMASH movies to its regular time on Tuesday, February 12 at 10 p.m. ET, the slot previously held by PARENTHOOD.

  1. Damn, this bombed in the ratings too. What's up with all these second season crash & burns lately?

    It's sad because now the networks won't be spending $$$ on shows like this, and we'll just get more boring NCIS clones and reality crap.

  2. My hope with SMASH is they make a lot of money from the music, and they get a lot of buzz out of it and that might make it worth it for NBC to keep around. I loved the premiere.

  3. Yes - its a well done show and deserves more viewers. Maybe when THE VOICE returns, things will look up?

  4. NBC scripted shows all get about this rating or worse without THE VOICE. SMASH is going to air after THE NEW NORMAL which isn't getting huge numbers either. But THE VOICE kicking off Tuesdays would help the other shows a lot.
