Today in Soap Opera History (February 7)

On this date in...

1812: Charles Dickens was born. In 1836 his first novel was published, "The Pickwick Papers". It was a success and was followed by more novels: "Oliver Twist" (1837), "Nicholas Nickleby" (1838-39) and "Barnaby Rudge" (1841). He traveled to America later that year and aroused the hostility of the American press by supporting the abolitionist movement. In 1858 he divorced his wife Catherine, the mother of his ten children. During the 1840s his social criticism became more radical and his comedy more savage: novels like "David Copperfield" (1849-50), "A Tale of Two Cities" (1959) and "Great Expectations" (1860-61) only increased his fame and respect. His last novel, "The Mystery of Edwin Drood", was never completed and was later published posthumously.

1966: On ANOTHER WORLD, Emily (Mona Bruns) reminded Mike Bauer (Gary Pillar) that Dr. James told him even if Julie had lived, she would never have left the sanitarium. Emily was thrilled Mike was not considering returning to his home town because he and Hope had found a place with her (THE GUIDING LIGHT was moving from Selby Flats to Springfield around this time).

1980: On THE EDGE OF NIGHT, April (Terry Davis) learned she was now a wealthy woman following Margo's funeral.

1983: Frank Parker debuted as Shawn Brady in DAYS OF OUR LIVES.

1983: On GENERAL HOSPITAL, Robert (Tristan Rogers) and Holly's (Emma Samms) marriage of convenience began when they wed quickly in the mayor's office.

1992: On THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, Victor (Eric Braeden) informed Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Jack (Peter Bergman) her tumor was not malignant.

1996: On ALL MY CHILDREN, Jason called Hayley (Kelly Ripa) for help to not drink.

2002: Actress Ellen Demming died. She was best known for her long-running role as Meta Bauer in THE GUIDING LIGHT.

2007: On PASSIONS, Theresa (Lindsay Hartley) was ready to tell Ethan that Little Ethan was his son.

Celebrating a birthday today are:

  1. Correct me if I am wrong - April on EON was Dr. Miles Cavanaugh's sister and that is why he wound up living in Margo's penthouse with Nicole (and later Jodie, who was also somehow related to Nicole)?
