NEWS ROUNDUP: New Timeslot For GENERAL HOSPITAL! Plus, Gemma McCluskie's Severed Head Found, Billy Magnussen, Arianne Zucker

GENERAL HOSPITAL switches timeslot today; Maurice Benard ready for more
On Monday September 10, GH will move up an hour to the 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT timeslot in most markets (a few are unchanged) — to accommodate the new Katie Couric show, KATIE. KATIE is syndicated but the majority of affiliates (not all) are ABC.

Longtime star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) couldn’t be more excited for the future. “Ron [Carlivati, head writer] and Frank [Valentini, executive producer] just keep everything interesting. The way these guys know how to keep stories going from one to the next to the next is unreal,” says Benard, who’s about to celebrate 20 years on the show and whose mob boss has often dominated story lines. “And they’ve been able to make this show into an ensemble. Which it’s never been. If I had the old ego, I might be upset. But I love it. It just adds spice to life. To me, if the show’s better, that’s what matters.”

Katie Couric: Big Day for Her and GENERAL HOSPITAL
"Even though GENERAL HOSPITAL has had a renaissance of sorts this spring and summer under new producers and writers, the ratings have remained disappointing. This could be because its 2pm lead-in was the godawful REVOLUTION and then GOOD AFTERNOON AMERICA. Moving to 2pm means “The Chew”–not as dreadful but still not much of anything– will be the new lead-in. GENERAL HOSPITAL will have to improve at least a little at 2pm–where there is no competition anymore at CBS or NBC. Otherwise, ABC will certainly think of some other new mundane, inane, cheap offering to replace it for good."

Severed head recovered from Regent's Canal where decapitated remains of former EASTENDERS actress Gemma McCluskie were found
The grim find comes seven months after the 29 year old’s headless and limbless body was discovered floating in the same stretch of Regent’s Canal near Hackney, East London.

Ofcom to investigate "violent" EASTENDERS fight scene
The scene lasted for nearly two minutes and featured furniture being thrown, glasses being smashed and the pub being left in total disarray. Broadcast reports that Ofcom received a single complaint about the episode, with a viewer saying it was too violent for the timeslot. The media regulator will now assess whether the level of violence was appropriate for the 8 p.m. broadcast time.

DAYS star Arianne Zucker loves her character
"I love the challenge of Nicole. I love her so much, and I think that really helps. I love what she does. I never say Nicole wouldn’t do that, because I just don’t know. I’ve always felt like Nicole’s the type of person who says things that people really want to say but you can’t. And so she says what she means."

AS THE WORLD TURNS alum Billy Magnussen starring in "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike"
Commissioned by the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, it gets its world premiere there on Friday in a co-production with New York’s Lincoln Center Theater, where it will begin previews in October.

PARENTHOOD: Ray Romano Gives Lauren Graham a Big Break in the Season 4 Premiere
Parenthood returns from its long off-season Tuesday with a new face joining the cast in Ray Romano. Romano plays Hank, an awkward photographer that Sarah (Lauren Graham) encounters when running an errand and stumbles on a job opportunity.

REVENGE Showrunner Mike Kelley Reveals Why We Won't Meet Conrad's MIA Son — For Now
“Right now, we’re really exploring the character that Barry Sloane is playing,” he tells TVLine, “which is someone who was in revenge school with Emily and was really her first adult love.” In order to truly delve into this male character — whose relationship with our leading lady organically “turned into a really satisfying story” — Kelley and his trusty team have decided to “hold off for a little while before we bring in another young man to complicate this further.”

A Conversation With BREAKING BAD Showrunner Vince Gilligan
"We’re sitting around a similar table to what a jury finds itself around, a boardroom-type table, and we sit there day in and day out and discuss where the story is at that particular moment. At this point in particular, when we have our final episodes, we work hard to ensure we’re not forgetting anything. We don’t want to leave any loose ends. My great fear is waking up two years from now, in the middle of the night, bolting up out of my bed and saying, 'Oh my God, we missed X. We should’ve done this. This would’ve been the right ending.'"

Alfre Woodward to guest star on PRIVATE PRACTICE in November
Woodard will playing Bennett’s (Taye Diggs) mom.

The world of extras can be both tedious, exciting
But for the burgeoning business of filming movies and TV series in metro Atlanta, extras are crucial to scenes shot in restaurants, parties and busy sidewalks. Or, in the case of AMC’s popular drama THE WALKING DEAD, a field of vacant-eyed zombies.

J.R. Martinez - 7 facts: Actor talks ARMY WIVES, DWTS: ALL-STARS
"I just started going back to motivational speaking," Martinez told OTRC.com. "I just completed a book, you know a memoir which kept me busy as well, which is going to come out in October. Then I had a baby - had a little beautiful little girl in May, and it's just been non-stop. Then ARMY WIVES came up. For me acting was something that I kind of just, I stumbled into it when I got my role in ALL MY CHILDREN in 2008 and it evolved into a three-year role on the show."

  1. Hmmmm - In the Roger Friedman Showbiz 411 article, he writes that "General Hospital will have to improve at least a little at 2pm–where there is no competition anymore at CBS or NBC."

In the Pacific Time Zone, "General Hospital" is now in the same time slot as "Days of Our Lives" (both airing at 1pm), so that means live and/or occasional viewers who are looking for escapist, soap-type fare could be choosing one show over the other as they'll be competing each other.
