Telenovelas, those drama-soaked, tear-filled roller coaster TV soap operas, were traditionally produced in Mexico, but Hispanic actors are increasingly flocking to sunny Florida to film them. In fact, Miami is being called the new Latin Tinseltown.

Another Casualty of War: Soap Operas

At the same time, Syrian production companies have shelved new shows; investors with ties to President Bashar al-Assad’s government have found their bank accounts frozen; and viewers throughout the Arab world have called for a boycott of Syrian satellite channels. A tax break issued by the government has failed to revive the industry.

Y&R actress Michelle Stafford takes a loss in Loz Feliz
Stafford sold her Los Feliz home for $2.145 million. The Daytime Emmy winner had restored the 1933 Mediterranean revival estate after buying it in 2007 for $2.525 million. Stafford listed it last year for $2.449 million.
