WEBSERIES THE WEBSERIES: What Do You Think?

WEBSERIES THE WEBSERIES was the "Indie Soap of the Week" last week according to We Love Soaps readers. The show is a parody of Crystal Chappell, VENICE, Otalia and more.

The show tells the story of aging cable TV star, Jules Martin (Detective Nina Pincheck on GOTHAM VICE), who deals with a canceled series, her unexpected status as a lesbian icon, a throng of adoring fans, and Pam, her well-intentioned, yet delusional, best friend.

Watch the first three episodes below and let us know what you think.

  1. The series made me laugh, so that's always a good sign :-)Is there going to be any more episodes coming Roger?

  2. Really funny stuff. I especially love the actress playing Jules. Funny how no other soap site has dared even mention this series.

  3. they havent dared mention it because its nothing but a mean spirited gripe fest from people clearly jealous of Crystal..this is not a real soap..I am stunned its getting coverage..

  4. I stumbled across this just a few days ago. I love it and hope to see more episodes. I had to surf around a bit in youtube to find the different episodes...

  5. Really....you consider this worthy of calling it a webseries? So, any of us can just sit around with a camcorder and act like idiots and call it a web series?

You really are comparing this to a series with accomplished actors? Give me a break.

Other soap sites haven't mentioned it because it is meant to degrade and belittle and that is NOT what a true parody does. This was not done in fun.

It is a piece of trash and needs to be taken to the curb.

  6. Renville, I don't know. I haven't heard from the producers at all, just been receiving some email about it.

  7. If I were Crystal I would be flattered. No other soap star ever gets parodied other than B&B on The Soup.

  8. According to the Oxford dictionary, WTW is doing EXACTLY what a true parody does. Anyone who says otherwise has no idea what "parody" is.

  9. I get why people think this is a parody of Venice but really I think even if Venice had never been made this would still be a funny series. That is what I think is brilliant about it. How many times have there been actors who had canceled shows and tried something new or different to keep working. I don't think it is mean spirited I think it is funny and I feel sorry for people who don't have a sense of humor.

  10. Wow, a few people seem to be a little bit on the sensitive side. I think it is funny and it is a parody of a web soap that We Love Soaps covers so I don't think there is any problem with Roger and Damon covering this series.

And YES, I think this is worthy of calling itself a webseries. I don't think that the quality of the production has anything to do with whether something calls itself a webseries or not. That being said this looks like it is scripted and while not the best actors in the world, they are not awful.

I don't think it is the best thing that I've ever seen on the web but it is funny. I really think that people that believe it is so very terrible may want to take a minute to think about what is inspiring those feelings because it may have more to do with your undying love of the parodied show than the parody itself.

  11. Hilarious!! I am not sure which I enjoyed more, the portrayal of crazy fans or of the star. Don't send the hate I enjoy Venice and enjoyed the GL storyline but some people have gotten carried away with fake characters.

  12. Its totaly a parody of Venice and Crstyal Chappell ,Kim Turrisi. I wonder how long can they keep up the episodes? everything they are showing I'VE actually seen already.where's the new material gonna come from? CC and KT rarely tweets this seems to be were they came up with the material trust me I've seen the venice fandom. the actual webseries is boring even if I did'nt know who they were talking about.

  13. I think it's hilarious and it's the only webseries that has kept my interest after 2 episodes.

Sure, it's a parody but what is so wrong with that?
It is still pretty well done, clever and the actress that plays Jules is fantastic.

  14. I think it is a nasty slam against Crystal, Kimmy and Venice. Not funny at all.

  15. Doesn't seem a soap to me.

What I find sad is that other better written, better acted and better produced material this week got knocked down in the 'enjoyment/people should watch' list for something that seemed as motivated by taking advantage of lesbian fan momentum as they seem to not so tongue in cheek accuse The Venice team of doing.

I can't help but assume the voting was dominated by factions of lesbian soap fans ticked at Venice for one odd reason or another. And it's amazing to me that instead of applauding the work of the folks on any number of other web based shows like for instance Anyone But Me (which had a stellar episode last week) it's more fun for fans to give publicity to something that mocks another project and the fans that might dig that project.

And this is coming from someone who things that Venice has a while to go until it reaches solid artist ground.

Some times you report news and some times the site does offer commentary. I would be curious to hear the take on things from the two of you here.

But to me this seems like a redux of the online drama over the fictional BAM vs Lianca pairings only with this - it's not fictional and is stabs at real people which makes this simply a mean NOT web soap opera.

  16. I enjoyed it. i don't think Jules is anything like Crystal and it's not just a parody of Otalia and Venice - I think there is a little Law and Order SVU as well. I'm sure Crystal can handle this - I have seen much meaner, nastier and less clever things said about CC. Just check out any DOOL message board. Those Bo/Hope fans say the meanest and least clever things about CC disguised as their hatred of Carly. Why should CC be insulted by a character that is nothing like her. CC is sharp and got a job even before GL went off the air and SHE introduced her friends to Twitter and she and Kim were planning a web series long before GL was cancelled. Also that guy was nothing like MS and I can't imagine Leslie Penny is anything like "Nickel" so why should any of them take this personally?

  17. Hmmm, I will debate the quality and merits of Venice somewhere else. But this webseries is not particularly good in any aspect. And it simply would not exist if it were not for Venice because this is not a funny and sweeping commentary on the webseries genre in general but it is pointedly targeting particular people who have created a particular webseries...and it has crossed a line to target their personal lives, to a certain degree (so far).

The only part I have appreciated was the opening scene of episode 3 where we see more clothes on the floor than two women could wear...and they are still clothed.

And I have to agree with Chele as to why this series got the votes it did. It was not so much for this web program but against another and other series like Anyone But Me and Empire got caught in the middle. Which is a shame.

How those associated with the creation of Venice feel about this webseries is up to them.

Me...from a viewer perspective...from an entertainment perspective...I am not enjoying it and clamoring for more.

  18. Personally, I'm really enjoying Webseries the Webseries. Sure the acting can be uneven (however for a webaseries its pretty strong and the actress who plays Jules Martin is great) but the writing is very well crafted...I admit to laughing quite a bit at the clever throughout.

Let's face it, soap fans can be a passionate bunch, so having a mirror placed up to our own fanaticism can be quite, well, unnerving. And really, do we think this is in any way an invasion of privacy? Exactly what part of this hits too close to home?

I agree with one of the posters that we can project many shows/situations onto these characters, particularly Jules. I think one should question one's own assumptions about the "facts" behind the fiction if one thinks any of this is a direct quotation of the "real". Give me as a viewer a little more intelligence than that. As a soap fan and as someone watching the sudden boon in web soaps, I appreciate the suspense of wondering what will happen next - they've got me hooked!

  19. I agree with soap, and chele Anyone But Me is the better webseries. they and others have gotten caught between WTW problems against Venice.I just don't see the it could be about actors and webseries in general.they know exactly who they were going after.

  20. I think this is clearly a case of to each their own. I like WtW because I enjoy it as a comedy, but have never been partial to teen romances (even as a teenager, didn't do it for me). Nothing against the lovely folks at ABM, but its just not my particular cuppa.
