News Round-up: Chamberlin, Zimmer, Budig, Deas

INTERVIEW: GL's Justin Deas (Buzz)
"I don’t watch soaps but I can see why people do. My wife, Margaret, watches them. People like them because they’re comforting, they like having these characters come into their homes. Me, I don’t want any of that. But I can certainly understand the appeal. If the soaps all go off the air, some smart person is going to figure out the right way to do it and bring ’em back. But they’ll have to rethink the form and make it bolder. I mean, we in America still haven’t gotten over our sex hang-ups! The lesbians on our show can’t kiss? What’s wrong with us? There’s a greater chance that GL would have brought in a donkey for Buzz to have sex with. Come to think of it, maybe it would have saved my career."

GL's Beth Chamberlin (Beth) on ABC 6

INTERVIEW: GL's Kim Zimmer (Reva)
"I think it would be very narrow-minded of the executive producers of the shows, if they were to say, 'She can’t do anything else.' Unless, like a Y&R or B&B brought Reva in, because Reva is not connected to anything really. I would love to play a new character, like a Sally Spectra on B&B. That would be a gas, but I could never replace Darlene Conley."

Is Y&R recasting the role of Malcolm Winters?
Soap Opera Digest has learned that Y&R has put out a casting call for Malcolm Winters, the role previously played by Emmy winner Shemar Moore from 1994-2002, and again in 2004-05. The role is set to start airing in November. The show is also looking for Tucker, who is described as a 55-60 year-old-maverick billionaire.

INTERVIEW: ATWT's Austin Peck
"I don’t know when I’ll be leaving ATWT. So far, I haven’t been written out. I don’t think I’ve processed this yet, probably because I’m still in scripts. I love being on the east coast and would prefer to stay here. It’s great being in L.A. with my friends and loved ones but the only way I’d move back there is if I knew I had a job."

INTERVIEW: MELROSE PLACE's Colin Egglesfield (Auggie)
"People aren't going to be disappointed once they start watching. It's not just a bunch of pretty people walking around half-naked. The writing is great, we've got a phenomenally talented cast and there's a lot of stuff to back up what you see on the billboards and stuff. [The writers] don't even really tell us much about future storylines. They keep it so secret and under wraps. Every week, we're discovering stuff that we didn't realize. And they haven't told us really anything about who killed [you-know-who]."

OLTL's Briody and Glass win TV music Emmys
For the second year in a row, songwriter and folksinger Kevin Briody received an Emmy for a song that was used on the show. And Ridgefielder Paul S. Glass, the music director for ONE LIFE TO LIVE, won his seventh Emmy as part of the “best directing team” award the show received for the year’s work.

“I put 3,000 pieces of music in the show a year,” Mr. Glass said. “...They fall into different categories.”

The song Mr. Briody was recognized for this year is “We All Fall Down,” which was used in the TV show when the script included a funeral for a baby — “Baby Hope” — who had died.

GH's Tyler Christopher on the carnival
"So, the Carnival: Most of you seem to like it quite a bit. Good because as much as you liked viewing it we liked shooting it even more. Not often these days do we get to step out of that dark depressing studio and go on location to do a show on a grand scale like that. Only downside was that it was f*&^%$# hot. Like Africa hot! You may not know this but it was actually all supposed to take place at night but the neighborhood threatened to shut us down because they were concerned about the noise. My response? 'Don’t move next to a television studio jackass if you’re concerned about noise!' It’s too bad because HD even on video looks amazing at night."

  1. Gossip Girl get 2.6 million viewers and it's a success but soaps get similar ratings and they're flops?
