The Latest in Soap Videos: Nuke, Chappell, Adam, Poker

Here are some of the latest soap opera videos to hit the web.

BURN BABY BURN: Noah burned his movie and other Winston belongings to help get his father's memory out of his head on Thursday's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Some ATWT fans are upset that Winston's Purple Heart was among the items being burned. What do you think? (The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those who have been wounded or killed while serving on or after April 5, 1917 with the U.S. military.)

ROAD TRIP: GUIDING LIGHT's Olivia and Doris hit the road on Thursday in search of Natalia. Crystal Chappell continues to amaze. Words do not do her justice.

KISS THIS: Nikki told Victoria about seeing the Rafe and Adam kiss on Thursday's THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. She should be happy since she's the only one who got to actually see it. Watch Part 2.

STRIP POKER: Nathan, Melanie, Brady and Ari played cards at the Horton cabin on Thursday's DAYS OF OUR LIVES.

  1. This burning of the Purple Heart represented burning the memories of his father and his father's beliefs. I think it certainly sends a strong message of the hate he has for his dad without it reflecting on the character being disrespectful to vets.

As for Crystal today on GL. Oh wow. First week without Jessica on the landscape and Crystal certainly showed the audience some strong emotions. Bring on the angst.

And how about that Oakdale comment from Doris.

  2. I loved the Oakdale mention. Maybe Doris WILL move there. And she must have been talking about Al's Diner. :)

  6. I understand the adoration for Crystal Chappell but I never see the same plaudits for Jessica Leccia. Why is that? It's as if the other half of Otalia didn't really exist except as a mirror to reflect CC's light.

Part of me wonders how much race/ethnicity comes into play. Prior to the Otalia phenomenon, Chappell, while regarded, never received this level of praise or devotion. Otalia seems to have burnished her metal.

When GL ends, I doubt that Leccia will find success on other soaps. Given the reality of soaps not wanting to hire minority actors except as tokens, in general, I'm not sure there is a place for her.

Look at CBS other soaps. B&B has had a wretched track record featuring people of color. Here today, gone seconds later. Supposedly, the show is trying to expand minority hiring by building a family for Marcus.

ATWT turns has Bonnie, Jade, and Derrick. All three serve as window dressing. None has a decent storyline.

GL turned a corner with the Riveras and with Remy but the show is dying.

Of course, General Hospital is the worst offender. The show has been hiring up a storm of new actors but folks of color aren't there.

Yes, Maurice Bernard may be of Cuban descent, but his character Sonny is coded as white.

  7. Back to Chappell, she is a great actress. Since the show is going to be canceled, will the show's the cast be eligible for the Emmys?

  8. I think Chappell has been popular since her DAYS days. I do think that sometimes when you are part of a supercouple that really takes off your popularity soars and she has said this is her first real supercouple pairing that she originated.

GL and its cast should be eligible for Emmys next year. It would be a shame if they don't get any nominations.
