New Contributor: Michael Goldberg

Michael Goldberg is a lifelong soap fan like myself. We both preferred daytime drama to the ELECTIC COMPANY as kids apparently because we have soap memories from very early ages when you wouldn't think young kids would be watching.

His love, passion and positive attitude for the genre makes him a perfect person to contribute to We Love Soaps. We both want to see the daytime soap survive and thrive. He's also a masterful writer and creative genius.

He will be writing opinion pieces and helping maintain the site when I'm out of town. Welcome, Michael!

  1. I am thrilled to join the team. I watched the soaps with my Mother in the womb. I kicked her, everytime a story went in the wrong direction.

  2. I bet she's glad you weren't born this decade! :)

  3. She gave up sometime around the 1980's. She missed a lot in the following decade :)

  6. Michael, be prepared to feel the love of the Big Purple Daytime Revolution! Welcome.

My earliest soap memory... being traumatized by Dickie Martin's swing set death on Days of Our Lives. (Years later I'd have a thing for Denise Alexander as Dr. Lesley Webber)

Then Phil and Tara's 'wedding' in the empty chapel in the snow on AMC. And Kenneth kidnaps Faith and stashes her in the hospital basement on Ryan's Hope!

  7. Thanks for the welcome :) I admit to having a love for Crystal Chappel that goes back to her days as Dr. Carly Manning on DAYS. As for Otalia, I think it's the best written soap romance this year :) It's written as a romance, a slow building romance that Soaps are missing the boat on.

  8. Welcome Michael! As Roger can attest - the Purple Peeps will come out in droves for any comment on Otalia, GL or even just good commentary in general. Sound a little interested in this genre??? LOL

Anyway... we look forward to reading your comments and entries.

  9. Hi Michael, well saying that you love Crystal Chappell as far back as when she was on Days of Our Lives, plus the fact that you think that the Otalia storyline is the best written this year, endears you to me immediately. I look forward to your posts :-)

  10. I was obsessed with Dr. Carly Manning growing up, loved Maggie on OLTL, and of course, as Olivia Spencer, she rocks hardcore :)

  14. Cool!Another diaper fan. I watched GH while still in grade school. HS was terrible, cut into my DOOL time and Dr.Manning. Also, like your mom ticked off one too many times and stopped watching for years. Now Crystal Chappell got me again only on GL with Otalia. I tried so hard too stay away!
    Welcome!

We'll be watching carefully for your opinion on SOD covers :)

  19. Thanks Mark! I believe that SOD should be putting Crystal Hunt on the cover every week, but maybe that's just me ha

  22. I'm late to the welcoming party, but

    "Welcome, Michael!"

So glad to know of another "in the womb" fan. I was raised on CBS soaps. We could only receive CBS so I watched all of the CBS soaps. Search for Tomorrow (Morgan Fairchild), Edge of Night, The Secret Storm (David Ackroyd), ATWT(John Dixon and Lucinda Walsh). I remember the first day of Y&R. GL has always been my favorite and the only one I watch now. Oh...and I love Crystal and Otalia!

Looking foward to your work, Michael!

  23. Thanks so much everyone for the welcome. Although certainly there are things wrong with our soaps, everyday I see something to celebrate. Of course, the Otalia story being one of them. It's a relationship based on true love. We need to fight to keep our soaps alive and really let it be known when something is being done right :)
