THE PRESIDENT COMFORTS A CHARACTER IN A SOAP

President Reagan recently sent a tongue-in-cheek note of sympathy, stamped with a dignified White House seal, to a temporarily blinded woman. It was tongue-in-cheek because the woman was a character in SANTA BARBARA, a soap opera on NBC.
Louise Sorel, who has portrayed Augusta Lockridge since the series premiered in July, received the ersatz get-well card from the President, addressed to Mrs. Augusta Lockridge.
"Nancy and I are sorry to learn about your illness," wrote Reagan, a resident of the real SANTA BARBARA and a fan of the program. "Our thoughts and prayers are with you. God bless you."
Sorel said diplomatically that she "was very flattered to have received such a nice note."
I really wish Louise Sorel was on screen, somewhere, again. I miss her!
