FLASHBACK: "General Hospital" & "General Hospi-Tale" 1981

No one's feeling well
At General Hospital

That's how "General Hospital" by Joanne Cipolla and the Planet Street Band started. The song was yet another indicator of the pop culture phenomenom daytime soap GENERAL HOSPITAL had become in the early 1980s. GH star Rick Springfield was already burning up the charts with "Jessie's Girl."

Of course ABC was none too happy about this song and sued Cipolla. She countersued.
More on that in an upcoming "FLASHBACK" article.

Then there was "General Hospi-Tale" by The Afternoon Delights.

Rock it hard Rock it steady
Pick yourself up and get yourself ready
Wave your arms, let me hear you yell
We're gonna rap about General Hospital

This rap gained a little more airplay on pop stations and made it's way to #3 on the pop charts in late summer 1981.

Both songs were popular among young viewers of GH and especially on college campuses where viewing parties were popular.

Where are the songs about the soaps of today?
