News Round-up

CADY MCCLAIN: Happy with Obama's choice for Secretary of State
"I know some people are less than thrilled with Hillary but I think she is brilliant and deeply dedicated to serving the American people. Her enthusiasm for what she does feels very strong and clear to me. I’m glad Obama is not afraid of strong opinions or egos, because in the clash of strengths, what is BEST for the PEOPLE will be what is foremost. That is the strength and purpose of debate- to sort out the issue and not let EGO define and demand an oligarchy!"

TV Globes Contenders: Comedy
UGLY BETTY and DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES are not the favorites but should not be counted out.

Golden Globes TV actresses preview
Whatever television's shortcomings may be, the quality of actresses in primetime doesn't happen to be one of them. Throughout the series and longform worlds, women who earned wide acclaim for their work on the big screen -- such as Judi Dench, Holly Hunter, Laura Linney, Anna Paquin, Susan Sarandon and Emily Watson -- are finding fulfilling roles on TV, too, enriching the tube's acting quality to its highest level in memory. It makes for a particularly daunting series of choices in the acting categories for the 66th annual Golden Globe Awards in advance of the nominations announcement on Dec. 11.

Jacob Young has a son
Jacob Young (JR, ALL MY CHILDREN) and his wife, Christen, became first-time parents on November 25 (at 10:06 PM, to be precise) with the birth of son Luke Wayne Young. Little Luke weighed in at 7lbs., 5oz. and measured 20 inches.

MICHAEL FAIRMAN: World AIDS Day - Daytime and I remember
"As many of those who know me, and my work with charitable efforts throughout my career has been focused on the fight and the cause of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. From the first Daytime Emmy AIDS benefits in 1989 at the Catch-A-Rising-Star Comedy Club in New York to this past October's, Los Angeles based benefit, 'Soaps In The City', the actors who make up our soap community have been there time after time to help those suffering, not only domestically, but globally."

PATRICK ERWIN: Nothing matters in a vacuum
"Today, the shows are filled to the brim with characters we barely know played by actors we’re still getting used to. Many shows have handed the keys to the kingdom over to a character or a couple who still has that “new character smell” and has few connections, if any, in town."

MARK HARDING: Don Diamont - An Appreciation
"There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth that Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn are leaving DAYS...but honestly, in its' own way, the dismissal of Diamont is almost a serious a bellweather of how deep the daytime funding cuts are going."

Shayne Lewis Timeline
GUIDING LIGHT's Shayne returned to the canvas today after spending the last few years in Afghanistan. Now played by AMC alum Jeff Branson (ex-Jonathan), he's not the same lovelorn sweetie he used to be. How much do you really know about Josh and Reva's son?

New Book "Christopher Walken A to Z" incldes GL reference
The "G" is for GUIDING LIGHT where Walken played the original Mike Bauer.

A Review of Frank Runyeon's "Hollywood vs. Faith"
"Frank Runyeon as a name meant nothing to me as I'm an infrequent TV watcher and if I were, soap operas wouldn't claim my time. But Runyean made a name for himself in shows like AS THE WORLD TURNS, GENERAL HOSPITAL and L.A. LAW. The slender, hyperactive man with an expressive face left that life 15 years ago and since has devoted himself to presenting Jesus' teachings through one-man drama and lectures such as I heard, 'Hollywood vs. Faith.'"

EDITOR'S NOTE: Runyeon returns to TV and soaps on December 12 as Reese's father on ALL MY CHILDREN.
