News Brief

More on Alexandra Chando's new TheWB.com series, ROCKVILLE, USA
Chando’s Deb is an East Coast transplant who started in the music business at 16, with one of those lucky gigs that turns passion into profession. Chando herself is straight East Coast — New York via Pennsylvania — turning her early community theater hobby into a contract role as Maddie on AS THE WORLD TURNS. She’s also a bit of a music prodigy, even singing the National Anthem at a few baseball games.

“The writing was just so smart - very realistic and natural,” Chando tells Tubefilter's Marc Hustvedt of her choice to do the project. “I really connected to the character and the way that she speaks.” I’m curious to know what working on a web series even means to these budding TV stars. Is this just another job on a charted path to A-list opulence?

“It’s a whole new medium. I’m on the internet every day,” says Chando, suggesting this is a series they would actually watch even if they had nothing to with it.

Dalton veteran, disfigured in war, now a soap star

During his lengthy recovery, which involved 32 surgeries, JR Martinez’s mother, Maria Zavala, would while away the hours with her son by watching her favorite Spanish telenovelas.

“I was stuck!” the 25-year-old recalls. “I couldn’t move so I started watching.”

Today, as the U.S. honors millions of military veterans, Martinez’s personal drama is playing out on national television. His character, Brot, is at the center of ALL MY CHILDREN, whose Veterans Day storyline is exposing millions of viewers to the effects of war.

“When I was injured,” Martinez explains, “I was unsure how society would accept me. I will never forget my homecoming. People were lined up on both sides of the street. Those people didn’t care what I looked like. They were just happy to see me. Dalton and Georgia gave that to me. I’ll never forget it.”

Through his ground-breaking role on AMC, Martinez is hoping to provide inspiration for other vets and to create public awareness about what injured soldiers deal with when they come home.

“No matter how dark your life is, you must have hope,” Martinez says. “You have to learn to look beyond the mirror.”

Vanessa Marano isY&R's new Eden Gerick
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS has recast the role of Eden with sixteen year old GILMORE GIRLS alum Vanessa Marano.

Jennifer Sipes to appear on Y&R
Things don't appear to be slowing down for Jennifer Sipes any time soon. She recently shot a role in Terrence Malick's 2009 film Tree of Life, is shooting a full-length film called Code Enforcer and will act in an episode of THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS later this month.

  1. I think AMC has a potentially good story on its hands, but naming the character BROT totally dumbs down the entire plot. I wouldn't name a pet "Brot" let alone a character who is a war hero.
