ABC Exec Nathan Varni: Starting Next Week, Watch 'General Hospital' Daily

ABC executive Nathan Varni, who oversees General Hospital as part of the network's current programming team, is asking fans to start a positivity campaign.

"A fan created this I saw recently and I thought let's see how many shares we can get going to show support for the show!" Varni wrote on Facebook. "Like and share if you love and support GENERAL HOSPITAL on ABC! I know everyone sees negatives about the show, how about we start a positivity campaign?! Also just to update all fans this week's episodes are great but starting next week make sure to watch daily! These episodes were shot in between the head writer switch and Frank and team did a marvelous job in fine tuning these episodes to hopefully feel more like the GH you know and love. I can't tell you how much everyone's support amongst the FB fan base means to all of us at GH and ABC. I love GH! Pass it on!"

Check out some newly released GH photos from the week of September 7th below:

  1. Bobbie! Anna! Always try and be positive about GH. We are so lucky to have our favorite show still on the air!

    1. Maxie is coordinating Sonny & Carly's 5th wedding, which is what I assume the photos are from.

  3. GH is a trainwreck and unwatchable. Even Y&R is better and that's saying a lot. ABC should be more interested in creating a quality show versus a PR campaign.

    1. If you build it, they will come. It doesn't always work out that way but it's your best hope IMO. I don't know Mr. Varni's complete background but I would recommend hiring a great PR team for GH when the show is better versus network execs trying to do that job.

    2. I agree, Josh! Y&R is in a bit of trouble and somewhat unrecognizable in its current state, but it is no where as awful as GH. I tuned in to the beginning on Tuesday, and had shut it off by the time the opening started. Complete dreck! Also this FB posting by the ABC executive is so out of touch, (reminded me of Hillary Clintons recent tweet asking people to tweet about their student debt in 3 emoji's or less) and sounds like the caffeinated delusions of a high school cheer leader, and reeks of desperation. Pitiful.

    3. It's embarrassing to try to watch. I don't think I'd even be sad if it were cancelled at this point. Liz, Nik, Anna, Tracy, Lulu, Dante, Carly, Patrick, Ric_ all unrecognizable but worst, the show is just completely boring. I hate the writing at Y&R but I am not completely turned off like I am with GH.

    4. For me, GH and Y&R are about equal at the moment. GH is rather boring and I don't care at all about who's mostly being featured at the moment. Y&R has things going on but I don't really recognize any of the characters even though I've watched many of these actors for decades. I probably judgeY&R harsher because it's the last soap left that I watched with my late mother and it has a special place in my heart. But heart is exactly what it lacks for me. I stopped watching both live because it's a huge time commitment and I end up frustrated. Life is too short for that.

GH is changing writers so something will change but I imagine ABC/Frank Valentini aren't giving them free reign so the characters they want featured will be front and center, and that may or not be who I want to see.

Seems like nothing is really changing for the time being at Y&R. I'm not sure what I have to hang my hat on in terms of hope for the future. I just want to care about the characters that are played by so many actors I have loved in the past but they feel like strangers now. Obviously some people are enjoying it because the ratings are fine. Bringing Traci back would at least be a sign somebody at CBS/Sony/Y&R recognize there's a lack of heart.

    5. What is so important about daytime soap operas is the connection formed because we have watched for so long and usually with loved ones. My grandmother got me hooked onto Guiding Light. Guiding Light was my favorite soap for so long but I could no longer tolerate it in it's last four years and tuned out, not even returning for the series' finale.

I know DAYS can feel like a chore when I let the episodes build on my DVR, but I still recognize DAYS and feel it has a beating heart. I am so excited about the 50th and the returns.

Re: GH, I think the key difference is that the show features mainly characters I don't care about (Nina, Franco, Kiki, Ava, Madeline, Olbrecht, Jakeson) in stories I hate. Also, the dialogue is just awful. Y&R at least features characters I care about (Jack, Phyllis, Victor, Nikki, Victoria, Ashley, Neil) front-and-center in stories I hate. The only new character Pratt added was Marisa and I like her. Y&R at least gets me to "hate watch" whereas GH just gets me to hate.

    6. BTW Roger, what's the Twitter T with a GH actor threatening fans on twitter? Give us some scoop....who, what, where, when why????

    7. I didn't pay attention to all the ins and outs but a fan was tweeting about Bryan Craig (don't think he was copied) and somehow Bryan's mom/family responded. It led to Bryan tweeting to the fan, "hey brother you keep typing sh*t like that to my family I'll do my best to find and break every fucking finger you have." He later deleted the tweet, with some fans defending Bryan and others being outraged and demanding Bryan be reprimanded. I'm not sure what all was said along the way to lead it to that point.

    8. Oh! Thanks. People are really horrible on social media, it boggles the mind why people choose to say hideous, cruel ,brutal continuous things to perfect strangers, but Bryan should learn how to use the block/mute button or delete his twitter. If someone said to me your mom's a $10 crack Wh&^%, and I then punched them in the face and broke their nose...I go to jail, so IMO the kid needs to learn how to deal with the downside of fame; it's not always everyone telling you how beautiful and fabulous you are.

  4. HI Roger! I agree with you that GH needs to hire a PR team once they have some story to promote. It is a nice attempt by Nathan Varni to try to spread some love but it really should be someone else's job. It comes off a little cheap when the actors and executives have to do the advertising. I'd like to see them amp up the shows website and social media. With Tyra Banks' FabLife coming, I think it would be wise to try to tie itself to that same sort of audience. Not sure Tyra talking about fashion and a 50-something godfather have the same audience. Featuring the fashionable Anna DeVanne would be a good idea. You mentioned that GH isn't playing your favorites right now, who are your favorites?

  5. I have fallen asleep three times this week attempting to sit through what was always my favorite show. RC and FVs obsession with former stars from other shows is just terrible. None of these characters have clicked with the regular viewers, and because of this, people are tuning out. The ratings are in...and they continue to drop. The pathetically written mob stories(Does anyone legitimately buy Jillian Jerrome as a mobster?...He prances around in his underwear, and has creepy sex scenes with the ever wonderful Nancy Lee Grahn.

Franko has been a miss since Howarth re-joined the cast in the role. Todd wasn't really working well, but I didn't mind him with Carly...but having Franko get together with Carly after having her son raped in prison. As much as I liked MS as Phyllis on Y&R, the contrived Nina character has just been cringeworthy since episode one. Horrendous character, propped to the hills.

Then there's Kiki, who was awful enough under Alderson(and yes, I was a fan of KA as Starr on OLTL when she was younger) should have just dropped off the canvas when KA left. Instead we have been subjected to Hayley Erin...and I'm not saying any more. If you watch GH, you understand.

Rosalie married to Brad is just pathetic, and telling whole storylines in one episode via flashbacks is just ridiculous! Morgan is seriously just a tool led around by his midsection. As much as I love Maura West, Ava has just gone beyond the road for salvation.

They need to fire FV for letting things get this bad, Bring in someone new and pull a Gloria Monty, throwing out everything already filmed and starting fresh. I am leery of JP and SA, but am willing to give them a shot, anything has to be better than the mess that Ron made!!!

    1. Perfectly stated. You summed it all up.

    2. Eric, you said it perfectly how I feel about GH! I can't stand Nina, Mads, Franco, Kiki or any of their stories. I've been watching since aired and this is the worst I've ever had to endure! I thought I'd never give up on my show but I'm about done. I can barely recognize anything that resembles my beloved GH! They need to fire all the newbies and OLTL leftovers and get back to core families, romance, hospital stories and use their wonderfully talented vets. If it isn't cancelled soon, I'll be surprised.

  6. I cut the cable so it's impossible to watch same day even if I'm willing to pay for it.

  7. Please change opening credits back to SIREN This 5 second dark mess which started with Ron and Frank is horrible. GH used to be fun.

  8. Even the Luke exit and Laura return was botched. How on Earth could Tony Geary demand his own Terms for exit and refuse a goodbye scene for Luke and Laura? The fans aren't dumb nor are we just here to save the show after being insulted and dissed as not mattering once the show appears to be out of trouble. I really think Ron was a scapegoat for more trouble at the top. And the show won't change until those changes are made.

  9. At least in these scenes I notice the color difference. There are more yellows and oranges in the picture. Probably because this is supposed to be outside but more reminiscent of the old GH days when characters and setting were more fun. Better than all those blacks and blues we are supposed to see everyday.
