'General Hospital' Star Kimberly McCullough Releases Teaser for 'Heyday'
![]() |
"If this doesn't work out, we're both f*cked!" |
In the pitch, McCullough (Robin on GH) recounts General Hospital's rise to fame in the ‘80s and how as a child, she was brought in to play the daughter of international super-spies Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Robert Scorpio Tristan Rogers). There’s tons of classic clips from the soap as well as interviews with Jay Leno, Regis Philbin, and Oprah Winfrey.
Growing up on camera and having to hide her family’s Mexican heritage because an agent once told her as a child that she looked “too ethnic” inspired McCullough to write Hey Day, a fictionalized look at a daytime soap in the '80s.
Watch the new Heyday teaser below, which features Hughes dropping a F-bomb.

Finola Hughes |
"I’ve got some great stuff to do," Hughes reveals to Soap Opera Digest. I’ve only just started to get back into Anna’s skin a little bit, but I’ve missed telling stories. I can’t wait to be back, I really can’t. I’m really looking forward to it.” She said she didn't know the long-term plan for the character, reporting, "Frank [Valentini, executive poducer] gave me a call and said, ‘This is what’s happening initially,’ and that’s all I know. Literally, I just jump back on the bike and I don’t know what’s around the corner, to use two metaphors [laughs]. I need a job, I need somewhere to live and I need a relationship, in that order.”

Apple eyes move into original programming
The scale of Apple’s ambitions vary depending on whom is asked, but one high-level executive said the goal is to create development and production divisions that would churn out long-form content to stream in a bid to compete with Netflix. Apple is hoping to put a headhunting firm on those hires in the coming months, according to source, with the goal of being in operation next year. Unknown is whether the focus is on TV series, movies — or both. Other sources described the company’s exploration as more of a flirtation.

NEWS: 'Twin Peaks' Delayed, Finola Hughes, Kim Zimmer, Robert Newman, 'Urban Cowboy'

The revival, announced by Showtime in October, was originally slated for a 2016 premiere.
“A lot of people always look back at Twin Peaks and say that was the start of this explosion we’ve had in good television drama, but we did it in a time when there were still only three networks,” said Frost. “The challenge for us is to try and come back and raise the bar above what we did the last time. We’re coming back with season three of Twin Peaks after a 25-year absence. We’ve finished the scripts, we start production in September, and that will be coming out on Showtime sometime in 2017.”
Finola Hughes returning to General Hospital earlier than expected?
Soap Opera Digest is hearing that Finola Hughes (Anna), who's been on hiatus from GH, will be back sooner than expected; Anna's sojourn to Ireland was slated to last until Hughes returned in September.

For a long time, neither Zimmer nor Newman knew the other was interested in or was being considered for the CLO production.
“We were both in the dark,” Newman says. “By the time she signed on, I knew they were approaching her.”
Though they are doing this show together for the first time, it's not the first time they have appeared on stage together.
Earlier this year, they performed the lead roles in the musical “Curtains” at Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, N.J., along with Amanda Rose, who will play the grown-up Louise in “Gypsy.”
In mid-May, Zimmer and Newman were part of the ensemble for “Putting It Together,” a revue of Sondheim songs in a joint production of the Delaware Theatre Company and the Delaware Symphony Orchestra in Wilmington.
FOX orders Urban Cowboy pilot
Paramount TV and 20th Century Fox Television will co-produce. In a statement, legendary producer Robert Evans said, "In the 35 years since I made the original Urban Cowboy, country music and the influence of Texas has gone stratospheric. The timing could not be better to continue this story in the television world... And what an ace team of collaborators we have on board to make it happen."
Luther creator Neil Cross to revive 1970s sci-fi series Sapphire & Steel
“I’m planning to — it looks like I’m going to — relaunch Sapphire & Steel,” Cross told the Nerdist Writers’ Panel podcast. He added that it was “a late ’70s science fiction horror show, which had incredibly low budgets, so every single episode was a bottle episode where the enemy is time itself. So it would tell ghost stories and monster stories but in every episode somehow time was the villain.” Cross, who has also written for MI-5 and Doctor Who, described the lead characters as “proto Mulder and Scully.”
The Cosby Show, The Dukes of Hazzard and the Ethics of Reruns
"If you believe that pop culture matters, then it matters even when it’s uncomfortable (and sometimes for the very reasons it’s uncomfortable).
