'The Young and the Restless' Looking to Cast a New Phyllis

With Michelle Stafford signed on to play Nina Clay on General Hospital, The Young and the Restless has put out a casting call for Phyllis Summers Newman.

The character has been in a coma since Stafford's exit last August.

Y&R is seeking a 35-40 year old actress with the following description:

Phyllis is beautiful, smart and conniving. She is confident in her own sexuality and is unafraid to use it to get what she wants. She knows she has power over men and many times has used it, both to her benefit and to her detriment. She definitely has an edge.

Sandra Nelson played the role of Phyllis in the late '90s.

We Love Soaps' Michael Goldberg predicted in his latest article that Y&R would be hot to cast Phyllis after GH snapped up Stafford:

Y&R is coasting, and it's time to stop. The priorities seem to be all wrong. The first thing I thought of when I saw former Y&R actress Michelle Stafford pop up on ABC soap General Hospital last week was, "Oh brother, which current or former GH actress will Y&R try to 'steal' now to play Phyllis?

Who would you like to see as a recast Phyllis?

  1. I would love to see Megan Ward cast as Phyllis. She's gorgeous, confident, sexy and is great at being bitchy! :) I think she would have great chemistry with Josh Morrow, Peter Bergman, or any of the male leads on Y&R. She's a very talented actress and adds layers to her character. She'd be a great Phyllis! She is also beloved by her many fans.

  2. Robin Christopher. She's a strong actress, daytime veteran, and a red head! She's also done time on GH (Skye) and sticking it to the competition is always a bonus!

Another option could be Cynthia Preston. She played Faith Roscoe on GH.

If Kassie DePaiva weren't going to DAYS, I'd recommend her as well (after Robin Christopher.)

  3. Robin Christopher is a good choice. Charlotte Ross comes to mind and if they are de-aging the character, I think Alicia Minshew might be interesting.

  4. Please don't de-SORAS Phyllis. Diane was a disaster. Do these people ever learn from their mistakes? I would prefer to see a new face as Phyllis instead of an actress from another daytime soap opera.

  5. Personally, I don't feel the character is required. I'd probably kill her off. .. lol!

But if they feel the need to recast, then they certainly shouldn't de-age Phyllis. That's just whack.

And I'd prefer they go with someone outside the daytime soap opera box; someone new to the genre. I could easily see Kristen Dalton as Phyllis: Demo Reel

    1. I would love a new face too but I would be good with an emotional death storyline or leave her in that coma forever. If Stafford hadn't signed with GH, it seems like Y&R was willing to wait for her. So why cast her now?

Does anyone want Sandra Nelson back as Phyllis?

    2. I really liked Sandra Nelson in the role. Many viewers forget that it was actually her Phyllis who began the character's important relationships with both Christian LeBlanc's Michael Baldwin and Peter Bergman's Jack Abbott - not to mention starting the whole feud with Diane Jenkins (then Alex Donnelley). In fact, I think I still have the scene on an old tape where Phyllis (Sandra) goes to meet Victor Newman for the first time to see if she can sell him something on Diane that she'd learned from Michael. Yeah, believe it or not, Stafford had never had a scene with Victor during her first run. She was pretty much relegated to the Danny-Christine-Paul box.

But while I think Nelson would still be good with Peter Bergman, I think she might have a hard time selling the character's now-important relationship with Nick (Joshua Morrow). That all happened with Stafford, and somehow I just don't see Nick and Sandra Nelson's Phyllis as a couple. - jmho

  6. I would live in fear that Sonia Satra would be cast, but she is clearly way too old to play Phyllis at 46 :)

  7. Megan Ward would be perfect. She is sophisticated and beautiful. And she is a phenomenal actress. Please consider Megan.

  8. Gina Tognoni would be the perfect recast for Phyllis.
