CORONATION STREET Legend William Roache To Face Rape Charges

Actor William Roache will be charged with two counts of rape involving a 15-year-old girl in the 1960s, according to BBC News. Roache has starred of CORONATION STREET since 1960, making him the world's longest-running actor.

Roache, 81, is alleged to have committed the rapes in Haslingden, Lancashire, between April and July 1967.

Neither Roache nor his representatives have commented.

Prosecutors said Roache will appear before Preston magistrates on May 14.

Chief Crown Prosecutor Nazir Afzal said the evidence against Roache had been "carefully considered" and as a result, the Crown Prosecution Service would be charging him with two counts of rape.

"We have been reviewing evidence and providing early investigative advice to Lancashire Police since March 1," he said.

"Having completed our review, we have concluded that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest for Mr Roache to be charged."

Roached passed AS THE WORLD TURNS legend Don Hastings for longest-running actor in the Guinness World Records book shortly after CBS aired that show's final episode in 2010.
