NOMINATIONS: 39th Daytime Emmy Awards; GENERAL HOSPITAL Leads All Shows With 23 Nominations

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) today announced the nominees for the 39th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Awards. The nominations were announced live this morning by Kathy Lee and Hoda on the TODAY SHOW.  The Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Awards recognize outstanding achievement in all fields of daytime television production and are presented to individuals and programs broadcast from 2:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. during the 2011 calendar year.

This year’s gala will be held at the prestigious Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday, June 23rd, 2012 in Beverly Hills, CA.

The Daytime Creative Arts Emmy® Awards gala, which honors the crafts behind the many shows that grace the Daytime genre will return to the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 17th, 2012.
This year’s Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Award for Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Bill Geddie, Executive Producer of THE VIEW, for his contributions as writer, producer and director in his more than 30-year television career.

"Bill Geddie is an icon in the television industry,” said Malachy Wienges, Chairman, NATAS. “When he and Barbara Walters created "The View" 15 years ago, they introduced a new and innovative daytime television talk show format.  We at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences are proud to have Bill receive our 2012 Daytime Lifetime Achievement Award."

Regarding the possibility of a 2012 Daytime Emmy Award telecast, Wienges noted that negotiations are continuing with several media outlets.

  1. Let the "OLTL got robbed" for best show cries begin. Honestly, they had a fair amount of really bad shows to pick from and knowing Ron and Frank, they prob picked one of those.

  2. Still amazed that B&B didn't even get a nom to try and with for the 4th time.

I thought it will be a sure win just for history sake etc.

  3. Colleen, OLTL picked the Fraternity Row is canceled episode and another one most people enjoyed. Once again, no matter what is put up for review, you can never predict the Daytime Emmy noms.

  4. A number of puzzling choices again.

  5. GH during it worst year EVER?

  6. Why no actors for the Lifetime Achievement Awards?? Their are a bevy especially among the soaps cancelled in the last 2-3 years. I'm P.O. that Elizabeth Hubbard and Eileen Fulton and Kathryn Hayes have yet to receive this honor. Bell Geddie? Please, the View is not going anywhere for now. They could've easily given him an award next year, while the women I mentioned above are in their late 70s to 80s. How much longer will we have them around to honor them?

  7. I'm so excited to see so many GH nominations! With that said, I really want Erika Slezak and Robert S Woods to win! They were so iconic over the years and totally deserve it. Any AMC or OLTL win will be amazing :)

  8. agent, I agree with you about Bill Geddie. My assumption at the time was they were trying to get The View ladies to attend since they haven't lately.

Eileen Fulton was awarded the Lifetime award in 2004 with Don and Helen, but there are so many who have not been recognized yet.

  9. WOOO HOOO!!! General Hospital team: Congratulations on the nominations!! I've always known how awesome your work is... so proud of all of you, EVERYONE has done 110% fantastic, keep up the good work!

  10. I am thrilled that GH has garnered so many nominations and equally thrilled that AMC is nominated for Outstanding Drama Series! However, for OLTL to be shut out of that category is complete travesty.

  11. Roger, I stand corrected (and I must apologize for misspelling there...YIKES). I feel a bit better that Eileen Fulton has been recognized for Lifetime Achievement. Geddie's award does seem rather strategic, now that you mention it. I'd still rather see one of our vintage soap stars strut their stuff toward that trophy than watch close ups of Barbara Walters trying to pretend to be touched. Still, if this shindig ever gets streamed or televised, it'll be interesting to see what the ceremony will look like.
Thanks for clearing that one up, Roger. I'll have to limit my righteous indignation for Hubbard and Hayes now.

  12. Ecstatic to see Crystal Chappell on the list for Lead Actress. I've been a fan since she was on OLTL, GL, DAYS. She is just so good in any role that I'm glued to my TV. Brilliant

  13. What about Y&R's Best actors and actresses--Michael Baldwin, Katherine Chancellor, Nikki Newman, Victor Newman and Lauren Fenmore--the best... I am happy to see Erika Slezak get the nom--she has been one of my favs since the show began.

  14. Where are all of nominations for the other actors on OLTL and AMC. And then not to have OLTL nominated for best Drama, give me a break. The save the soap Fraternity Row episodes showed just how all of the fans of OLTL and AMC felt at the cancellations of their beloved shows.

  15. MUCH congratulations to AMC,OLTL,and GH on all of their richly deserved nominations!! I do wish OLTL had been nominated for Outstanding Drama-it and AMC remain deeply missed by the fans.

  16. So glad that B&B's Jacqueline MacInnes Wood and Heather Tom got nominations these two ladies are great actresses!
