COMMENTS FROM THE PANEL:
Connie Passalacqua Hayman (Marlena De Lacroix): It's the character actors who keep soaps interesting, and as the great Stefano DiMera on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, Mascolo is never less than interesting in every scene and not comic for a second. Mascolo is an opera fanatic in real life and his oft returned Stefano is Prince of Manipulators himself -- a great opera all unto himself.
Alan Carter: In the hands of many, this cartoonish character might have been a joke. I mean, how many times could he kidnap Marlena before even HE got bored out of his skull? But Joe Mascolo, I think, is in on the joke. He seems to all but wink at the camera saying...I know this is silly, but Im going to take this seriously. Ive always admired that about him personally...he doesn't get the acting accolades, but there is a reason he is a fan fave.
Roger Newcomb: Mascolo is another actor who has been doing soaps on and off for 50 years. That's such an incredible accomplishment to me. And maybe even more remarkable is how he's kept the character of Stefano on DAYS so entertaining for so long. We've seen wonderful actors on other soaps play back from the dead villains over and over and it didn't work. Mascolo makes it work.
COMMENTS FROM CO-STARS/CO-WORKERS/INDUSTRY:
Louise Sorel: (works with Mascolo on DAYS OF OUR LIVES) Joe Mascolor is a talented, powerful actor with whome I have worked on DAYS and thoroughly enjoy. He's wickedly funny and devoted to this work.
