INTERVIEW: ATWT's Cady McClain

We Love Soaps caught up with AS THE WORLD TURNS Emmy winner Cady McClain (Rosanna) at the recent Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction in New York City. The actressed discussed her upcoming music appearance, teased her character's new romance, and shared her feelings on peanut butter and banana pancakes.

We Love Soaps: How are things going for you on AS THE WORLD TURNS now?
Cady McClain: I’m having so much fun. It’s a great show, and I think it’s going to be around for a long time. I get to do a lot of sexy, sexy scenes now so that makes me happy. It makes up for real life. [Laughs]

We Love Soaps: Rosanna has been doing a lot of supporting work since she got back.
Cady McClain: Yes, helping Carly with the kids. But now we're moving up a bit into romanceland.

We Love Soaps: Anything you can tease us with about Rosanna’s romance?
Cady McClain: It just gets into her a lot of hot water, and when Carly comes back the proverbial ... hits the proverbial fan.

We Love Soaps: Now the question we get a lot here at We Love Soaps is if those poisoned banana pancakes [that killed Dixie on ALL MY CHILDREN] were really poisoned, or is there any chance in your mind that perhaps they were tainted but not deadly poisoned?
Cady McClain: Well, I have to tell you those were the most delicious pancakes I’ve ever had. It’s like, “What do you mean these are killing me? They’re fabulous!” Whether or not I go back to ALL MY CHILDREN has to do with ABC and what they want to do. I’d be happy to come back, even for a guest appearance to help J.R., or fix his car, or whatever. It’s a fun group and I love what they’re doing on the show. I love the look of the show.

We Love Soaps: Would you be willing to go to L.A. for that?
Cady McClain: I would, for a brief amount of time. [Laughs] I was born there so I know it really well. I like it a lot better than I used to. I had a really good time last time I was there, and the Daytime Emmys were a lot of fun. And I love soaps too, so I will go where they call me to go and fall off a cliff, have a miscarriage, or get married for the 600th time.

We Love Soaps: In your own life, do you eat peanut butter and banana pancakes? Or are they ruined for you forever?
Cady McClain: You know they did kind of bum out pancakes for me for awhile. I don’t think I’ve had a pancake since to be honest with you. I was like, “Oh no, I love pancakes, don’t do this to me.” But I will again, someday. Pancakes will be mine.

We Love Soaps: One thing I’ve always admired about you is how outspoken you are and how you speak your mind. I admire that, and try to follow that in my own life. Have you ever to pay a price for that?
Cady McClain: I did, I think. But I can’t regret it because I was being true to myself and what I believe. And if I caused an uproar, then I’m really sorry if I hurt anybody that might be offended or disagree with what I say. But I had to say what I said and I still have to be true to myself about it. I can live with myself, and that’s the beginning, middle, and end of it.

We Love Soaps: Have you ever not spoken you mind and then regretted it later?
Cady McClain: Yeah, sure. Even in real life, you see something and you don’t say it, and you walk away and think, “Why didn’t I say something? Why didn’t I do something about that? Why didn’t I stand up for what I believed in?” I think it’s so important. Life is so short. You have to be true to yourself and tuned in to what you believe in.

We Love Soaps: I completely agree. Are you still doing your music here in New York?
Cady McClain: I am. I’m actually going to start singing again in November.

We Love Soaps: How can someone find out when and where you’re going to play and how to see it?
Cady McClain: I have a website, www.cadymcclain.com. I’m also on Twitter. I’m a Twitter girl so I Twitter a lot. And I’m going to be playing at Prohibition some time this winter. Or you can just write to me at [email protected] and I will put you on the list of people I keep in touch with.

We Love Soaps: One thing we’ve been talking a lot about at WeLoveSoaps.net is the future of soaps on the internet. Is that something you would ever consider doing?
Cady McClain: Absolutely. I’m in love with new technology. I think it’s fascinating how everything is changing. I think we have to roll with it and make it as entertaining and rewarding as possible for the viewer and just try to be inventive and embrace the future. Because things are going to change. They always do.

  1. Thanks for the great interview. I hope that McClain has a long run on ATWT if that's what she wishes.

  2. I simply adore Ms. Cady McClain. Thank God Rosanna's return is working this time around and that she's happy on the show. It's always must-see TV for me whenever she's onscreen.

I would love to see her Rosanna reconnect with Mike Kasnoff when Mark Collier returns. Or maybe with Jon Hensley's Holden.

  3. These latest interviews (Cady, Ellen) are just amazing. In brief format, they have a directness that doesn't usually make it into the soap press.

WLS is, IMO, building a trust with their readership that "you're going to hear it unvarnished"...and that makes you the place to go.

Now, let's go reclaim pancakes from the dark side!

  5. Cady will always be Dixie for me. I watched her start the role on AMC. I'm glad to hear she would at least consider coming back to AMC. Her last scenes with little Kate and Tad were so touching. Cady does great work.
