  1. congrats to daniel cosgrove and jeff branson for their lead and supporting acting nods, respectively. though i am all sorts of disappointed that crystal chappell was criminally overlooked- yet again- by the academy, i still plan to tune in to the daytime emmys in august.

hey roger, when do we find out writing and directing? i have high hopes for jill lorie hurst and ellen wheeler!

thanks for being so quick with the post!

  2. This is really funny: All My Children, which is routinely mocked as being horribly written, is nominated for Best Series and Young and the Restless, routinely agreed to be the best, is left out. Thankfully, the mob show, GH, was also left out. What time period does this cover? Surely not Crystal Chappell's scene in the graveyard.

  3. seriously? No Crystal Chappell? Do these people even watch soaps? Ridiculous.

If they can't bother to watch and nominate her amazing reel, I'm not bothering to watch the emmys this year.

  4. Can't imagine who is doing the pre-nomination nor the actual nominee posted today but the overall picture seems to be burying Guiding Light before the scheduled termination...is this a right wing conspiracy, HA! I realize it is for work in 2008 but the story line portrayed by Crystal Chappell since January 2008 should have the BEST ACTRESS nominee and award. To ignore this actress and soap opera is cruel to the fans, writers, and the actors.

  5. Maybe CC was overlooked because she gave a lead actress performance and only got nominated in the supporting category. If that is why then that is seriously unfair. Do the actors submit in the categories or does the panel pick where people go.

  6. Crystal Chappell was robbed. She is the best on daytime. Who the H@#$ is in charge of these awards? NO justice for CC thats for sure.

  7. Roger, thanks as always with the quick update.

While I don't mean to take away from those nominated, I just don't get it. It's as if the industry gave up on Guiding Light, throwing a few noms compared to other shows. Congrats to Daniel, Jeff, E.J., Bonnie & Caitlin. But not a single leading or supporting actress?! Really?!

Did anyone bother to watch the submissions from Crystal, Gina or Marcy? And Guiding Light as best soap v. some of those nominated. Yes, I'm biased. But if you step away from it, I really feel like this is a case of people being scared of change. The new production model has allowed some amazing storytelling, in every aspect. But maybe the industry doesn't want to accept that they might have to adapt with the times. So let's not reward that, pay it much attention, because it'll soon go away and then they can keep doing the stale work they are and no one will notice. Then one by one, they'll all get cancelled.

  8. Great to see Jeff Branson and Daniel Cosgrove get the nod, but I cannot understand how Crystal Chappell was left out?? Her portrayal during the heart transplant story was outstanding and worthy of any award at any level. I am also very surprised to see AMC get so many nominations. Its a complete mockery! All I can say is Crystal, you deserve SO much better, and you WILL win Lead Actress next year, along with many other GL actors and the show itself, which I fully expect to see transmitting from a new shiny network. WE WILL KEEP THE LIGHT SHINING!

  9. Crystal Chappell so deserved a nomination I mean last year she literally gave it her heart and soul .And then to add insult to injury AMC best soap ! I would love to see how the emmy people pick these is it as I think some kind of elaborate roulette wheel based in a different reality.
Well thanks roger for the post.

  10. Roger--I thought younger and actress and actor weren't announced till tonight?

  11. I so wish GL was nominated. This show is a trail blazer and has done a lot with much less than any of the other soaps. I just want some good news for the wonderful cast and crew of GL. Next year, Crystal Chappell better be nominated for best lead actress! That graveyard scene is unrivaled ... IMHO.

  12. Roger, how does all this Emmy nomination business work?

First, when is the period of work for the Emmy nominations? I am happy for Jeff Branson but he came onto GL on December 1, 2008. I suppose it is based on the submitted clip. Branson certainly brought the drama when Shayne arrived into town.

Second, who decides what category for the actors/actresses? If the period of work runs to the end of the year, how did Crystal Chappell wind up in the Supporting Category? She was the lead in her storyline at least since April, 2008.

Congrats to Cosgrove, Branson, Bonilla, and the composer of the GL Original Song.

  13. love, the period is calendar year 2008. Yes, Jeff Branson came in December but they only submit one or two shows to be judged so the voters don't take that into consideration. They just watch the DVDs.

The actors choose their categories but sometimes it seems like the show works this out to give everyone the best show. There are constantly leading actors and actresses, like Alicia Minshew, who are in supporting. They may think it gives them the best chance to get nominated.

  14. Thanks for the explanation, Roger. The only surprise almost as big for me as Crystal being snubbed was seeing Alicia in the supporting category. She was front and center the entire time. I guess it's like Kate Winslet getting a Golden Globe in supporting for The Reader.

But I guess no matter, every year someone gets snubbed and no doubt their fans feel shenanigans took place. (But this time with Crystal it really did! I swear! ;-))

  15. Thanks for the explanation Roger, that is something I have always wondered about too.

I have to say, I am also extremely surprised that Jill Lorie Hurst, Ellen Wheeler and Guiding Light were not nominated for best writing either..

  16. Thanks for the explanation, Roger.

  17. Congratulations to the nominees. I'm glad to see Daniel Cosgrove and Jeff Branson were nominated, but to ignore all of the other extremely talented people: Crystal Chappell - who outshines any other actress on daytime, also Ellen Wheeler and Jill Lorie Hurst for their excellent contributions to the show. Are any of the emmy voters actually paying attention? GL has become the best soap on TV today.

  19. I am beyond words. Where is Crystal Chappell ? She deserves not only to be nominated but to WIN! Her performance is unbelievable. Robbery ! that is what this is.

  20. I have followed the Daytime Emmy Awards for awhile and while I agree with the new production format, GL is a little weak, it has rarely failed to be nominated for best soap. GL usually has quite a few nominations, and not to take away from daniel and jeff, but folks are right, Crystal Chappell had great story lines along with Kim Zimmer, who seems to always get nominated. The academy does seem to have buried GL even before it is offically cancelled. Question: How is this lack of nominations going to affect the show trying to get another outlet to be shown? I'm one of the folks who watched with my grandmother growing up..I want GL to keep going!

  21. What's up with Crystal Chappell not getting nominated? I would like to hear an explanation from anyone that has a theory...

Crystal Chappell, you gave an electrifying performance I would have given you that emmy!

  22. I AM GLAD THAT ONE LIFE TO LIVE IS BEING TAKEN OFF THE AIR BECAUSE THE WRITERS OF THE SHOW PRESENT MINDLESS, SEX-DRIVEN, UNBELIEVABLE CHARACTERS THAT TAKE UP USEFUL SPACE ON TELEVISION.
