We Love Soaps caught up with Clare and Christopher to find out more about their roles in the film.
Soap Opera Trivia: Clare played Abigail Deveraux on Days of our Lives as a kid in 2003-2004. Christopher joined Days in 2017 playing Stefan DiMera. Clare's former character, all grown up and played by Marci Miller, married Stefan in 2018.
WE LOVE SOAPS: You are earning rave reviews for your performance portrayal of Lindsey Lou. What was it about this character that drew you to the role?
JILLIAN CLARE: Lindsey Lou is a multi-layered character that I felt I hadn't seen portrayed in film before. Most films with young 20-something women have to do with college, or something extremely awful, and of course, rom-coms. This film is a slice of life. It follows a lost girl going through something that everyone goes through in their own life and that's why I fell in love with it. No craziness, no big explosions. Just reality.
WE LOVE SOAPS: The film also stars Days of our Lives and General Hospital actor Tyler Christopher. What was it like working with him?
JILLIAN CLARE: Tyler was such a joy to work with on set. I loved discussing the characters with him and what their relationship was. He brought great energy to set and to his character. I'm so happy we found him.
WE LOVE SOAPS: The film was shot on location in Portland, Oregon. What was that experience like? Is being away from Los Angeles helpful for you as an actor?
JILLIAN CLARE: I think anytime you can put distance between your reality and your characters is a major advantage. Being from Portland myself, I loved shooting up there! It was so nice and everyone was super helpful and accommodating. We wanted it to look like any-town-America, and it fit perfectly!
WE LOVE SOAPS: Pretty Broken opens today in Los Angeles with a premiere event on February 27. I hear that night was extra special for you.
JILLIAN CLARE: EXTRA is right! My mom flew in my best friend Sarah Jo from Connecticut to surprise me! I had absolutely zero idea she was coming and there were definitely tears. They all got me really good!
WE LOVE SOAPS: You are only 26 and have a massive list of impressive credits already. And you've now added director to your resume. Is there a dream role or a dream job you hope to take on one day?
JILLIAN CLARE: Tough question! I love storytelling so much and I just want to continue doing it. I guess a dream role would be to be in the next big Titanic type film. I love history and I love romance. So something big like that would be a dream come true.
WE LOVE SOAPS: Why should people see Pretty Broken?
JILLIAN CLARE: I truly feel that everyone can connect to this movie. It's sweet, sad, funny, and filled with so much heart. In a way, it's a love letter to anyone who has lost a parent.
WE LOVE SOAPS: You play Jerry Carlyle in the film. How would you describe the character?
TYLER CHRISTOPHER: He's the most zany guy I've ever played. Cowboy car salesman. Enough said.
WE LOVE SOAPS: On a shallow note, you look great in a cowboy hat! What drew you to this role?
TYLER CHRISTOPHER: Thank you. It was the comedy really. I don't get to do those roles often.
WE LOVE SOAPS: Are there any similarities between Jerry and your soap opera characters, Nikolas and Stefan?
TYLER CHRISTOPHER: Ughhh. Zero similarities. You'll see what I mean.
WE LOVE SOAPS: There is so much entertainment content out there in film, television and the Web. Why should people check out Pretty Broken?
TYLER CHRISTOPHER: It's very endearing. Feel good tug on your heart strings. And I appreciate people who support indie filmmaking.
WE LOVE SOAPS: What do you enjoy most about acting in films versus television?
TYLER CHRISTOPHER: I love that films tell the complete story. And also it's not so damn fast!
WE LOVE SOAPS: You played Nikolas on General Hospital for many years and most recently starred as Stefan on Days of our Lives. What was the biggest difference working at those two shows? Would you consider returning to GH?
TYLER CHRISTOPHER: Days works really, really fast. But my time there was fantastic. I, of course, would play Nikolas again. I miss that old guy!
