1964: Another World's Pat had TV's first abortion.
1985: Santa Barbara's C.C. collapsed before signing divorce papers.
1989: Guiding Light's Rick proposed to Meredith.
1997: Another World's Kirkland faced an oncoming car.

On this date in...

1964: On Another World, Pat Matthews (Susan Trustman) had an abortion. This was the first abortion story told in television history. Irna Phillips and William J. Bell were the writers.

1970: On Dark Shadows, David Collins (David Henesy) and Hallie Stokes (Kathy Cody) made a doll and realized that someone would live with them in the dollhouse.

1980: On Another World, Mary Evers (Donna Parsons) told Miranda Bishop (Judith McConnell) she found a tape in the tea canister and Miranda assumed it belonged to Mac Cory (Douglass Watson). Later, Miranda told Mac about the tape. He said it wasn't his, and they agreed she would listen to it to find out who it belonged to, unaware it was a recording of Mitch Blake's (William Gray Espy) confessions about working with Janice Frame to poison Mac.

1980: On Texas, Billy Joe Wright (John McCafferty) tried to force himself on Elena Dekker (Caryn Richman).

1985: On Santa Barbara, C.C. Capwell's (Charles Bateman) aneurysm burst and he fell into a coma while Gina (Linda Gibboney) moved their divorce papers further and further out of his reach so he couldn't sign them.

1985: On General Hospital, Sean Donely (John Reilly) told Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) that he had arranged to return the treasure to the Mexican government. Frisco Jones agreed to go with Felicia Cummings to visit her grandmother to tell her about the treasure.

1988: Carl Anderson returned to Days of our Lives to sing "Friends and Lovers" for Kim and Shane.

1988: On Guiding Light, Rick Bauer (Michael O'Leary) proposed to Meredith Reade (Nicolette Goulet).

1991: The book "Women and Soap Opera: A Study of Prime Time Soaps" by Christine Geraghty was released.

1993: On Days of our Lives, Bo Brady (Robert Kelker-Kelly) gave Billie Reed (Lisa Rinna) a pendant to thank her for everything she had done for him.

1997: On Another World, Kirkland Harrison (Sean Rademaker) was hit by a car driven by Paulina Cory (Judi Evans).

1997: On Days of our Lives, Carrie Brady (Christie Clark) punched her sister, Sami (Alison Sweeney), after interrupting Sami's wedding to Austin Reed (Austin Peck) and revealing Sami was faking amnesia and that Lucas Roberts (Bryan Dattilo) was Will's father, not Austin.
