1980: Douglass Watson & Judith Light won Daytime Emmys.
1984: Elizabeth Taylor surprised Carol Burnett on All My Children.
1984: Days' Bo & Hope reunited after he kidnapped her.
1997: OLTL's Dorian was not pleased with Todd's parrot.

On this date in...

1940: On radio soap opera Young Widder Brown, Ellen (Florence Freeman) was romanced by Dr. Anthony Loring (Ned Weaver).

1968: On Dark Shadows, Carolyn (Nancy Barrett) began to experience the dream curse, but woke herself up to keep from having it. Later, Carolyn had the dream in which she saw a tombstone with her name ("Carolyn Collins Stoddard") and the following dates, Born: December 8, 1948, Died: July 15, 1968.

1973: On The Doctors, Dr. Matt Powers (James Pritchett) informed Mona Aldrich (Meg Mundy) that she needed to take more tests to find out what was wrong with her.

1979: On Another World, Rachel (Victoria Wyndham) freaked out when Brooks told her Mac (Douglass Watson) took Amanda. Later, Rachel arrived at the Cory mansion with the police but Mac wouldn't let them in without a search warrant.

1980: At the 8th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, winners included Guiding Light (Drama Series), Douglass Watson, Judith Light, Warren Burton and Francesca James. Hugh McPhillips won for "Cameo Appearance," a short-lived category.

1984: Carol Burnett and Elizabeth Taylor guest-starred on All My Children. Taylor surprised Burnett during a scene with Eileen Herlie (Myrtle). She spoke about it on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno shortly after Taylor passed away. "All of a sudden out of the blue, which was not in the script, there is somebody in the charwoman scrub-woman outfit," Burnett said. It was Taylor dressed as one of her characters from The Carol Burnett Show.



1984: On Days of our Lives, Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) reconciled at Maggie's farmhouse after he kidnapped Hope from her wedding to Larry Welch.

1984: On The Edge of Night, Judd Wallace held Jody Travis (Karrie Emerson) hostage.



1986: Paul Stevens, who played Brian Bancroft on Another World, died at age 65.

1990: On General Hospital, Robert (Tristan Rogers) spent the night at Anna's (Finola Hughes). They agreed that whatever their next move against Faison would be, they would do it together.

1993: On As the World Turns, Damian (Paolo Seganti) announced that he and Lily were the new owners of the Oakdale Yacht Club.



1997: On One Life to Live, Dorian (Robin Strasser) threatened to let a cat in if Todd's parrot didn't shut up.



1997: On Port Charles, Lucy (Lynn Herring) assured Scott (Kin Shriner) they would find Serena.



2001: The Port Charles "Tainted Love" story arc debuted.



2001: On All My Children, Anna (Finola Hughes) was shocked to hear Robin (Kimberly McCullough) was HIV positive. Anna comforted Robin and told her everything would be all right. She told Anna that she had known she was positive for a few years, and was on medication to keep the disease from becoming AIDS. Robin also revealed how lonely she felt when Anna and Robert were presumed dead but had her uncle Mac care for her, and later talked about Stone and how he died. Anna told Robin they would reunite in Paris when it was safe. As Edmund escorted Robin out of Wildwind, Anna broke down in tears.



2009: Actor Ward Costello died at age 89.  His soap roles included Peter Ames in The Secret Storm and Martin Drake on General Hospital.
