Wednesday Night Ratings: NASHVILLE, REVOLUTION, IRONSIDE, CSI

NASHVILLE was watched by 6.023 million viewers.  Expect that number
to rise 2-3 million once DVR numbers are added in.
The Wednesday, October 2 fast national Nielsen ratings are in. Check out what the broadcast networks are saying below.

From ABC:
ABC Wednesday Prime (8-11 p.m. - 7.6 million and 2.5/7 in AD18-49): ABC ranked #1 on Wednesday in Adults 18-49 (tie) for the 2nd straight week. Also for the 2nd week in a row, ABC's MODERN FAMILY was the dominant #1 TV show of the night across all key Adult demos. The Net was up over the year Wednesday by 14% in young adults (2.2/6 on 10/3/12).

THE MIDDLE (8-8:30 p.m. - 7.8 million and 2.2/7 in AD18-49): ABC's THE MIDDLE took second at 8pm in Adults 18-49, beating Fox's THE X FACTOR (2.1/7) and NBC's Revolution (1.6/5). The ABC comedy matched its Adult 18-49 delivery on the same night last year and grew in Total Viewers (7.7 million and 2.2/7 on 10/3/12).

BACK IN THE GAME (8:30-9 p.m. - 6.6 million and 1.8/6 in AD18-49): Continuing to deliver solid Adult 18-49 lead-in retention in the 8:30pm half-hour (82%), ABC's Back in the Game beat NBC's REVOLUTION (1.5/5) in the half-hour by 20%. Back in the Game delivered solid retention of its week-ago debut in viewers, young adults and all key Women: Total Viewers (83%), AD18-49 (82%), W18-34 (94%), W18-49 (96%) and W25-54 (91%).

MODERN FAMILY (9-9:30 p.m. - 10.9 million and 4.2/12 in AD18-49): ABC's MODERN FAMILY more than doubled its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 9pm to dominate its half-hour. Modern Family held 100% of its week-earlier season premiere rating. L+3 Ratings: Last week's season premiere of Modern Family added on +1.6 rating points in the Live + 3 Day data to deliver a 5.8 rating.

SUPER FUN NIGHT (9:30-10 p.m. - 8.2 million and 3.2/9 in AD18-49): Delivering greatly improved Adult 18-49 lead-in retention out of MODERN FAMILY (76% - best retention for any regular comedy debut in the slot in 4 years - since 9/23/09), ABC's SUPER FUN NIGHT debuted at a dominant #1 in the 9:30pm half hour and as the #2 TV show on Wednesday, behind only Modern Family. It ranks as the season's #2 new comedy debut, behind only CBS' BIG BANG-led CRAZY ONES. ABC now has 2 of the Top 3 new comedy premieres this season with SUPER FUN NIGHT and THE GOLDBERGS. SUPER FUN NIGHT is ABC's highest-rated regular Wednesday Fall comedy debut in the half-hour since 2009 - since 9/23/09. ABC's premiere of Super Fun Night was the #1 most social new comedy premiere so far this season (16,902 tweets).

NASHVILLE (10-11 p.m. - 6.0 million and 1.9/6 in AD18-49): At 10pm, ABC's NASHVILLE beat NBC's series debut of Ironside (1.4/4) by 36% Adults 18-49 and won the hour with Adults 18-34 and key Women (W18-34/W18-49). Nashville earned better than 90% retention of its week-ago season opener in Total Viewers (92%), AD18-49 (95%), W18-34 (100%) and W18-49 (100%). L+3 Adult 18-49 Ratings: The week-ago premiere of Nashville shot up 45% (up from a 39% increase for the year-ago premiere) in the Live + 3 Day numbers, growing to a 2.9 rating (vs. a 2.0 in L+SD).

From NBC:
Wednesday Primetime Results:

· The debut of IRONSIDE (1.4/4 in adults 18-49, 6.8 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) topped NBC's comparable year-ago debut in this time period in total viewers by 3% (6.807 million vs. 6.614 million for CHICAGO FIRE on Oct. 10, 2012). IRONSIDE retained 99.7% of last night's total-viewer lead-in from LAW & ORDER: SVU (6.807 million vs. 6.829 million). In adults 18-49, IRONSIDE finished within 0.5 of a point of the year-ago "Chicago Fire" premiere (1.9) and within 0.6 of last night's "SVU" lead-in (2.0). In the time period, IRONSIDE ranks #2 among ABC, CBS and NBC in total viewers.

· LAW & ORDER: SVU (2.0/5 in 18-49, 6.8 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET) is up 11% versus last year's second telecast in 18-49 rating (1.8 on Oct. 10, 2012) and up 10% in total viewers (6.829 million vs. 6.236 million). From its first half-hour to its second, SVU grew in every key ratings category.

· Note that in "Live Plus Three Day" ratings last week: LAW & ORDER: SVU added 34% or 0.90 of a point to its next-day "live plus same day" 18-49 rating (to a 3.58 in L+3 from a 2.68 in L+SD) and in total viewers, added 24% or 2.312 million persons (11.896 million vs. 9.584 million).

· REVOLUTION (1.5/5 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) improved by 15% on NBC's time-period result last year on the second regular Wednesday of the season (1.3 on Oct. 10, 2012, a Presidential debate disrupted Wednesday, Oct. 3) and was up 35% in total viewers (5.393 million vs. 3.997 million). Versus NBC's slot average last season, REVOLUTION is up by 7% in 18-49 (1.5 vs. 1.4, "live plus same day, non-sports") and up 20% in total viewers (5.393 million vs. 4.509 million).

· Note that in "Live Plus Three Day" ratings last week: REVOLUTION added 41% or 0.74 of a point to its next-day "live plus same day" 18-49 rating (to a 2.56 in L+3 from a 1.82 in L+SD) and in total viewers, added 29% or 1.999 million persons (8.806 million vs. 6.807 million).

· REVOLUTION is also a strong upscale draw, indexing last week at a 125 among adults 18-49 living in homes with $100K+ incomes (with 100 representing an average concentration of those homes).

· For the night, NBC finished within 0.9 of a rating point of #1 (1.6 vs. 2.5 for ABC and CBS), cutting in half a gap that stood at 1.8 of a rating point for the second regular Wednesday of last season (1.7 vs. 3.5 for Fox on Oct. 10, 2012).

From CBS:
SURVIVOR: BLOOD vs. WATER and CSI won their time periods in all key measures with week-to-week growth, leading CBS to a nightly win in viewers, adults 18-49 (tie) and adults 25-54, according to Nielsen preliminary live plus same day ratings for Oct. 2.

SURVIVOR: BLOOD vs. WATER was first in viewers (10.05m), adults 25-54 (3.5/10) and adults 18-49 (2.6/08). Compared to last week, SURVIVOR was up +3% in adults 25-54 (from 3.4/09), +8% in adults 18-49 (from 2.4/08) and added +510,000 viewers (from 9.54m +5%).

CRIMINAL MINDS was first in viewers (11.01m) and second in both adults 25-54 (3.6/09) and adults 18-49 (2.7/07). CRIMINAL MINDS was the night's most-watched program.

CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGTION was first in viewers (9.53m), adults 25-54 (2.8/07) and adults 18-49 (2.1/07). Compared to last week's season premiere, CSI was up +5% in adults 18-49 (from 2.0/06) and added +410,000 viewers (from 9.12m, +4%).

For the night, CBS was first in viewers (10.20m), adults 25-54 (3.3/09) and tied for first in adults 18-49 (2.5/07, with ABC).

Editor's Note: Television viewing on platforms such as DVR, video-on-demand and online streaming continues to grow at a fast pace. Last season during premiere week, Live+7 CBS audiences grew 20% over Live+SD in total viewers, up from 17% in 2012. In A18-49, Live+7 levels grew 29% from Live+SD, up from 23% one year ago. Additionally, many CBS shows experienced as much as a 50% increase in total viewers once full 30-day multi-platform audiences were accounted for. In an effort to quantify how much non-linear viewing adds to Live+SD audiences, CBS Research will provide estimates for series which will include DVR playback as well as multi-platform viewership.
