Tuesday Night Ratings: SUPERNATURAL Has Highest Rated Season Premiere Since 2010

The Tuesday, October 8 fast national Nielsen ratings are in. Check out what the broadcast networks are saying below.

From ABC:
ABC Tuesday Prime (8-11 p.m. - 5.4 million and 1.8/5 in AD18-49): With its Tuesday night freshman lineup from 8-10 p.m. and a repeat SCANDAL at 10 p.m., ABC was up year to year on Tuesday for the 3rd straight week in Adults 18-49 (+6% over 1.7/5 with an all-original schedule on 10/9/12), standing as the only major net to grow. The Network outdelivered Fox's Tuesday all-original lineup (3.4 million and 1.6/5) by 2.0 million viewers and by 13% in Adults 18-49.

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. (8-9 p.m. - 7.7 million and 2.8/9 in AD18-49): Pacing within 3-tenths of the prior week's Fast Affiliate rating - (3.1/10 - Please note: last week the show went up 2-tenths of a rating point in the Nationals to a 3.3 rating), ABC's MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. ranked #1 in the 8 p.m. hour, tying NBC's THE VOICE (2.8/9) and beating in CBS' NCIS (2.7/8). It was the #2 TV show on Tuesday in Adults 18-49, just 1-tenth shy of NBC's 2-hour THE VOICE for #1. For the 3rd week in a row, the ABC drama dominated its hour across all key Men demos (M18-34/M18-49/M25-54) to rank as Tuesday's #1 TV show on all 3 measures.

· The season's #1 new TV show, S.H.I.E.L.D. more than doubled ABC's Adult 18-49 delivery in the hour from the year-ago night (+115% over a Dancing special at 1.3/4).

· Delivering increasing gains in early TV playback (+48% in Week 2 vs. +38% in Week 1), S.H.I.E.L.D.'s 2.8 Live + Same Day rating is projected to go up to a 4.1- 4.2 Adult 18-49 rating in the Live + 3 Day numbers (based on a 48% increase in L3 last week). The show has also been adding 3.5 million viewers in L3.

THE GOLDBERGS (9-9:30 p.m. - 5.7 million and 2.0/5 in AD18-49): At 9 p.m., ABC's THE GOLDBERGS was Tuesday's most-watched comedy for the 3rd week in a row. The show delivered better than 90% audience retention week to week in Total Viewers (93%), Adults 18-49 (91%) and Adults 25-54 (100%).

TROPHY WIFE (9:30-10 p.m. - 4.7 million and 1.4/4 in AD18-49): At 9:30 p.m., TROPHY WIFE was up week to week by 9% in Total Viewers and held 100% of its Adult 18-49 delivery.

In its slot, TROPHY WIFE drew 1.7 million more viewers than Fox's THE MINDY PROJECT and tied the Fox comedy in Adults 18-49. It was the night's 2nd-most-watched comedy, behind only THE GOLDBERGS and leading all 4 of Fox's sitcoms for the 3rd consecutive Tuesday.

From CBS:
CBS won its third consecutive Tuesday in viewers and placed first in adults 25-54 (tie) as NCIS, NCIS: LOS ANGELES and PERSON OF INTEREST all won their time periods, according to Nielsen preliminary live plus same day ratings for Oct. 8.

NCIS was first in viewers (17.87m) and adults 25-54 (4.0/11) and averaged 2.7/08 in adults 18-49. NCIS was Tuesday's #1 program among viewers and adults 25-54.

NCIS: LOS ANGELES was first in viewers (14.78m) and second in adults 25-54 (3.6/09) and adults 18-49 (2.6/07).

At 10 p.m., PERSON OF INTEREST was first in viewers (11.68m) and adults 25-54 (3.0/08) and was second in adults 18-49 (2.0/06).

For the night, CBS was first in households (9.3/15), viewers (14.78m), tied for first in adults 25-54 (3.5/09, with NBC) and second in adults 18-49 (2.4/07).

Editor's Note: Television viewing on platforms such as DVR, video-on-demand and online streaming continues to grow at a fast pace. Last season during premiere week, Live+7 CBS audiences grew 20% over Live+SD in total viewers, up from 17% in 2012. In A18-49, Live+7 levels grew 29% from Live+SD, up from 23% one year ago. Additionally, many CBS shows experienced as much as a 50% increase in total viewers once full 30-day multi-platform audiences were accounted for. In an effort to quantify how much non-linear viewing adds to Live+SD audiences, CBS Research will provide estimates for series which will include DVR playback as well as multi-platform viewership.

From NBC:
Tuesday Results:

· A recap edition of THE VOICE (2.9 rating, 8 share in adults 18-49, 10.0 million viewers overall from 8-10:01 p.m. ET) is #1 for the two-hour time period in adults 18-49 and other key demographics and is the #1 show of the night in 18-49, pending updates.

· The VOICE recap finished within a tenth of a rating point of a comparable year-ago recap in 18-49 rating (2.9 vs. 3.0 from 8-9:01 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012) and is up 18% in total viewers (10.028 million vs. 8.481 million).

· CHICAGO FIRE (2.2/6 in 18-49, 7.6 million viewers from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) is #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in 18-49 in the time period, and finished within 0.4 of a point of last week's 2.6 despite this week's lower lead-in from a recap episode of "The Voice."

· CHICAGO FIRE is up 22% versus the show's year-ago third episode in 18-49 rating (1.8 on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012) and is up 18% in total viewers (7.577 million vs. 6.421 million). CHICAGO FIRE is also up 10% versus NBC's year-ago rating in this time period (2.0 on Oct. 9, 2012 with PARENTHOOD) and is up 53 percent in total viewers (7.577 million vs. 4.952 million).

· Note that in "Live Plus Three Day" ratings last week, CHICAGO FIRE added 36% or 0.96 of a point to its next-day "live plus same day" 18-49 rating (to a 3.60 in L+3 from a 2.64 in L+SD) and in total viewers, added 32% or 2.821 million persons (11.564 million vs. 8.743 million).

· NBC ranks #1 for the night among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49.

· For the first time in eight years, NBC has won the opening three Tuesdays of the season among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49.

From The CW:
The ninth season premiere of SUPERNATURAL was the series' most watched (2.53M) and highest-rated premiere since 2010 in all key demos (1.0/3 in A18-34, 1.2/3 in A18-49).

It was SUPERNATURAL 's best A18-49 rating (1.2/3) since 2010 (10/15/10).

Versus last season's premiere, SUPERNATURAL was up 37% in total viewers, up 25% in A18-34 (1.0/3), up 33% in W18-34 (1.2/4), and up 50% in A18-49.

It's The CW's best performance in the time period (Tues 9-10pm) in more than two years in A18-34, A18-49 and W18-49.

THE ORIGINALS also held up well moving to its new night and time, averaging 1.92M viewers, 1.1/4 W18-34, 0.8/3 A18-34, 0.9/3 A18-49.

Compared to last season's average in the time period (Tuesday 8-9pm), THE ORIGINALS was up 60% in A18-34, up 57% in W18-34, up 80% in A18-49 and up 71% in W18-49.

Versus the same week last year, THE ORIGINALS improved the time period (Tuesday 8-9pm) by 26% in total viewers, by 14% in A18-34, by 29% in A18-49, and by 58% in total viewers.

Last night was The CW’s best Tuesday night in two years in A18-34 (0.9/3, since 11/8/11), W18-34 (1.2/4, since 11/29/11), A18-49 (1.0/3, since 9/13/11) and W18-49 (1.2/3, since 9/27/11).

Last season, SUPERNATURAL averaged a 38% increase in total viewers when Live + 7 Day delayed viewing was added. In A18-34, the numbers were even higher, typically jumping 48% in L+7, and in A18-49 it increased 48% in L+7.

Digital streaming of SUPERNATURAL last season averaged a 29% increase in its total audience per episode.
