NEWS: WWE Star Darren Young: 'I'm Gay'; Megan McTavish Retired & Enjoying Life; DEGRASSI Death

WWE star Darren Young: 'I'm gay'
WWE superstar wrestler Darren Young publicly came out as gay during an unplanned interview with the news entertainment website TMZ late Wednesday. He is the first openly gay wrestler in the organization -- which is the premier professional wrestling company -- according to a tweet by WWE Executive Vice President Stephanie McMahon.

Young made the statement while at an airport baggage carrousel in Los Angeles after being asked if "a gay wrestler could be successful within the WWE."

"Absolutely. Look at me. Ya know. I'm a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay. And I'm happy. I'm very happy," Young said in response to the question.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW: Former daytime actress and writer Megan McTavish
Life is much quieter now, far from the endlessly shifting relationships of soap opera characters. Retired and a resident of Colebrook, McTavish (ALL MY CHILDREN, GUIDING LIGHT) has enthusiastically thrown herself into two other passions, her Bernese Mountain Dogs, which she selectively breeds, and a newfound involvement in the Colebrook Historical Society.

Looking back on her years in daytime television, she recalls that it was “a lot of work,” all deadline driven. “We had to produce five hours of television a week, 52 weeks a year,” she said.

McTavish says it is harder for writers these days. Reality shows, which require no scripts, have become popular and prime time shows have morphed into soap opera-like serials. “It basically became that prime time did soap operas and they could do it more expensively,” she said. “I think serial storytelling is very much alive in shows like THE GOOD WIFE and THE MENTALIST—they all have soap opera stories, who is going to fall in love with whom.”

DEGRASSI Season 13 Shocker: Fan Favorite Dies in "Honey"
[SPOILER ALERT from Thursday's episode] Adam (Jordan Todosey) died after hitting a tree when he lost control of the car he was driving because he was texting at the end of the last episode, sending home the message that it can always wait to the show's young viewers. Executive producer Stephen Stohn tweeted after the episode, "We must never text and drive. Never."

  1. Megan McTavish's retirement was one of the best things to ever happen to daytime.
