CBS President & CEO Les Moonves on the Future of Y&R and B&B: 'They're doing well. They're profitable.'

What is the future for THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL?

"They're doing well. They're profitable," CBS president and CEO Les Moonves said at a Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour session on Monday. "They were able, a few years back, to do the shows a bit more economically. Our daytime has gone way up this year, and their profitability has gone way up. So we believe those two soaps will be on for a long, long time. We don't think the form is dead. Obviously, there are a lot less than there used to be, but we're very pleased with what they're doing."

CBS has five shows in the daytime and profitability has gone up on all five of the shows. "We don't think the form is dead. Obviously there's a lot less than there used to me."

  1. THIS IS VERRRRRY STRANGE. HOW can B & B , be profitable, after losing over 800,000 viewers ?

  2. B&B is up in the ratings from a year ago in Total Viewers, and female viewers 18-34 and 18-49. B&B actually gained 456,000 viewers since last year in the most recent Nielsen ratings. Costs are down, and ratings are up so it makes sense CBS is happy.

  3. And those are just US stats. B&B is the most exported show to foreign markets.

  4. True about foreign markets, santalorena. But for it's part, CBS doesn't have anything to do with sales in foreign markets or how popular B&B is abroad. CBS simply purchases the broadcast rights for the show in the USA via a licensing contract. All international licensing is sold by Bell-Phillip Productions, Inc. through BBL Distribution.
