Prospect Park's Jeff Kwatinetz shares his thoughts on ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE in a new
interview in
Forbes by Lesleyann Coker. Kwatinetz talks about how his company chose the distribution model for the soaps and says each soap will produce 210 episodes per year. Here are a few interested tidbits:
LC: Why did you choose to distribute online as opposed to distributing through cable or satellite networks?
JK: We chose online because we believe that it’s the best means of distribution in terms of convenience, cost and accessibility. Just like the best distribution now for music is the Internet, we believe it’s also best for television content.
LC: How will you market the show to fans?
JK: We will do everything from digital/social media coverage, including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, to promotional spots on iTunes and Hulu. We’ll also cover traditional marketing with radio and TV spots, as well as billboards and print advertising.
LC: How will you monetize the shows? Through subscriptions, pay-per-download, advertising, ad sponsorships, freemium, DVDs, or a combination of some or all of the above?
JK: Hulu is advertising supported distribution, and they run 30 second commercial spots just like traditional television. iTunes is pay-per-download. We’ll also have sponsorships and integration opportunities.
LC: How many episodes will you produce per year?
JK: Each show will produce 210 episodes per year.
the 210 includes the BTS /recap show that airs on Fridays. Its 168 original shows and 42 recap shows for each soap

ReplyDeleteWill they be permitted to go back to GH?
The actors Kristen Alderson (Starr), Roger Howarth (Todd), and Michael Eason (John) are able to go back to GH but as different characters. Prospect Park owns the rights to the characters. The actors are under contract with ABC/GH. Kristen and Michael chose not to reprise their role as Starr and Michael on the new OLTL (at this time). Roger has already started filming as Todd for the reboot. I believe he will only be on for a month before returning to GH as a new character. I have no idea how the new characters are going to play out. They should have just left GH altogether or never have crossed over. Hope this answers your question.
