Starz TCA Update On DA VINCI'S DEMONS, MAGIC CITY, BLACK SAILS

Starz presented updates on several of its upcoming original series to television critics in Pasadena.

Highly anticipated historical drama DA VINCI'S DEMONS, written and directed by David S. Goyer, will premiere on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. A new extended trailer for the series was also released.

DA VINCI'S DEMONS follows the ‘untold’ story of the world's greatest genius during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence. Brilliant and passionate, the twenty-five year old Leonardo Da Vinci is an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist. As a free thinker, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time. He begins to not only see the future, but invent it.

The series stars Tom Riley, Laura Haddock, Elliot Cowan, Lara Pulver and Blake Ritson.

Starz also released a new trailer for season two of the 1960’s Miami based drama MAGIC CITY, which will return this summer with new cast members; legendary James Caan and Esai Morales.

This season Ike Evans (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) risks everything in a life and death battle to rid his Miramar Playa Hotel of the mob and Ben “The Butcher” Diamond (Danny Huston). Ike’s dangerous plan to defeat Ben takes Ike from Havana’s glamorous casinos to dealings with a new devil – Ben’s boss in the Chicago Outfit (Caan). Ike’s wife Vera (Olga Kurylenko) gets a second chance at her former dancing glory, while sons Stevie (Steven Strait) and Danny (Christian Cooke) drift farther from Ike -- Stevie toward the power and rewards of Ben’s dark world, Danny into the moral righteousness of State’s Attorney Jack Klein. Changes in Castro’s Cuba ripple to the shores of Miami Beach, and a new world order begins to tear the Evans family apart. Even if Ike’s long-shot gamble to take back his hotel succeeds, will the price of victory be too high?

Season one cast Kelly Lynch, Jessica Marais, Elena Satine, Dominik Garcia-Lorido, Taylor Blackwell and Yul Vazquez all return.

Production officially began in Cape Town, South Africa on the new Starz Original series BLACK SAILS (working title) from executive producer Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes with Neil Marshall (The Descent) set to direct the first episode. The straight-to-series eight episode first season of the pirate adventure centers on the tales of Captain Flint and his men, and takes place twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic “Treasure Island.” The series will air in 2014.

Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver. Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day – a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.

Luke Arnold will star alongside Zach McGowan, Toby Stephens, Hannah New and Jessica Parker Kennedy.

BLACK SAILS will be executive produced by Michael Bay (Transformers, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor) and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. The series is created by showrunner and executive producer Jon Steinberg and co-executive producer Robert Levine.
