WATCH: Olympic Torch Live Segment On EASTENDERS

The Olympics torch was carried through the streets of Walford in a live EASTENDERS broadcast on Monday night.

The eight-minute segment, featuring Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) running with the flame live through the crowds in Albert Square was inserted into the regular taped episode of the soap.

31 regular cast members were involved with more than 450 extras brought in to cheer on Billy during his big Olympic moment.

The BBC said it had pulled out all the stops for the live broadcast to make sure the event reflected every other torch run throughout the UK.

Earlier today, the flame was taken 36.88 miles through the London boroughs of Lewisham, Bromley, Croydon, Sutton, Merton and Wandsworth.

Among the 187 torchbearers tonight were Doreen Lawrence; Sir Patrick Stewart, who played Capt Jean-Luc Picard in STAR TREK; tennis stars Andy Murray, Tim Henman and Venus Williams; and footballer Michael Owen.
