Univision & TeleFutura Only Broadcast Networks To Show A18-49 Growth During May Sweeps

“Una Familia Con Suerte” Finale Is Third Highest Rated Show on Broadcast Television Wednesday Night
Univision Stations Once Again Rank No. 1 & No. 2 in the Country in Local News; WXTV Univision 41 in New York has the No. 1 Early Local Newscast in the Country Among Adults 25-54 for the Second Consecutive Sweep Month

MIAMI, FL – MAY 24, 2012 – Univision Network announced today that it completed the May 2012 sweep period up 1% among Adults 18-49 vs. May 2011.  The only other broadcast network to see ratings increase year-over-year during May sweeps was the company’s TeleFutura Network, which grew 24%, while all other top 10 English- or Spanish-language broadcast networks saw declines.

Additionally, the company today announced that during the May sweep, its owned-and-operated (O&O) local television stations in New York and Los Angeles led all other stations in the country with the most watched early local newscasts, among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49, regardless of language. Also during the sweep period, KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles claimed the top spot in the country with the most watched late local newscasts among Adults 18-49, while WXTV Univision 41 in New York claims the distinction as having the most watched early local news in the country among Adults 25-54 for the second consecutive sweep month.
Univision stations in Los Angeles, Houston and Phoenix also finished the May sweep as the No. 1 stations in their markets, in early news, late news, primetime and total day viewing among Adults 18-49, regardless of language.
Additionally, Univision closed the 2011/2012 broadcast season on a high note, with the two-hour finale of “Una Familia Con Suerte” (A Fortunate Family). From 8 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday night, 8.8 million Total Viewers 2+ tuned in to all or part of the program to find out just how the luckiest and beloved Lopez family celebrates love and the second chances that life brings.
The strong viewership of this popular novela’s grand finale made the network the No. 2 most-watched broadcaster in the time period and for the night among Adults 18-34, behind only the “American Idol” finale on FOX. The network was also No. 3 in the time period and during broadcast primetime, beating CBS, NBC and the CW among Adults 18-49. ”Una Familia Con Suerte” ranked as the No. 3 most-watched program  of the night on broadcast television with more Adult 18-49 and Adult 18-34 viewers than the season finales of “The Middle,” “Don’t Trust The B in Apt 23” and “Revenge” on ABC as well as “Law And Order: SVU” on NBC.

  • During the May 2012 sweep period, KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles led all other stations in the country as the No. 1 most watched station during primetime among Adults 18-34, regardless of language. 
  • Univision also has three of the top 10 stations  in the country during primetime among Adults 18-34; and two of the top 10 among Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54, regardless of language.
