Today in Soap Opera History (May 8)

On this date in...

1908: Future DAYS OF OUR LIVES co-creator Ted Corday was born.  He died in 1966 at age 58 leaving his wife, Betty, to take over DAYS.  He was previously the executive producer/director at AS THE WORLD TURNS and directed GUIDING LIGHT and VALIANT LADY.  His son, Ken Corday, is executive producer of DAYS today.

1959: Early NBC Radio soap, ONE MAN'S FAMILY, went off the air after 27 years.

1964: At the end of the very first week of ANOTHER WORLD, Alice told Granny that her parents and Russ drove to Oakdale.  AW was originally planned as a spin-off of ATWT before ending up on NBC.

1970: On DARK SHADOWS, Yaeger discovered the chained coffin and prepared to open it. 

1987: Joseph Campanella first aired as Harper Deveraux on DAYS OF OUR LIVES.

2008: Noelle Beck debuted as Lily Snyder on AS THE WORLD TURNS.



2009: Rapper/actor Snoop Dogg made his first appearance on ONE LIFE TO LIVE.
