REVIEW: B.J. FLETCHER: PRIVATE EYE Is an Adorable, Addictive Crowd-Pleaser

For fans of: CAGNEY & LACEY, THE L WORD, THE BLOODHOUND GANG, LAVERNE & SHIRLEY, RIZZOLI & ISLES

What it is: Adorable, bumbling private investigator and her loyal (but increasingly independent) sidekick use charm, luck and the power of cute to solve (and commit) some crimes while falling in (and out) of love. Season and series finale premieres tomorrow!

What's good: It's all so lovable!  Attractive (yet non-threatening) alpha lesbians, old-school KEYSTONE COPS style hijinks and disarmingly creative wordplay make for a consistently pleasant ride.

What's great:
Sometimes it seems web series come in three flavors: quirky, weird, and inscrutable. But  B.J. FLETCHER: PRIVATE EYE is original, yet accessible, with non-stop gags (physical humor, puns, satire...) and excellent incorporation of twists and cliffhangers. So easy to get into--it's a real crowd-pleaser. I truly can't wait until the mystery is solved tomorrow. Plus, it must be said: Lindy Zucker's title character is a charismatic treasure.

What could be better: While not every series needs to vie for the best cinematography Indie Soap Award, I still felt like too many scenes had the look and feel of a good home video.   Also, the investigation storylines have a tendency to coast on autopilot.

Addictive like: Bad (meaning awesome!) puns.

Grade: B-

Review based on: Season 3, Episodes 1-4.
