PREVIEW: ABC Sunday Night Soaps ONCE UPON A TIME, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES & PAN AM

ABC's Sunday night soaps are back on January 8 with all new episodes as The Year of the Soap continues.

ONCE UPON A TIME starts the night off with "Desperate Souls" at 8 p.m., ET.

Regina and Mr. Gold play dirty politics and take opposite sides when Emma runs for a coveted Storybrooke public office against Sidney. Meanwhile, back in the fairytale world that was, Rumplestiltskin tries to track down the ultimate power source in order to help his son avert the horrors of a meaningless war.

ONCE UPON A TIME stars Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White/Mary Margaret, Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan, Robert Carlyle as Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold, Lana Parrilla as Evil Queen/Regina, Jared Gilmore as Henry Mills, Josh Dallas as Prince Charming/John Doe and Raphael Sbarge as Jiminy Cricket/Archie Hopper.

"Desperate Souls" was written by Jane Espenson and directed by Michael Waxman.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES follows at 9 p.m. ET with "What's to Discuss, Old Friend."

With a gun at her side, Bree prepares to end it all now that her friends have abandoned her and her life continues to spiral further into despair.

Gaby begins to suspect that Carlos may have had something to do with Detective Chuck Vance's murder.

Susan makes up her mind to go to New York to become a true artist - with or without Mike.

An angry Tom cancels his plans to go to Paris with his girlfriend when Lynette confesses that she's an accomplice to murder and may soon be arrested.



DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES stars Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, Marcia Cross as Bree Hodge, Eva Longoria as Gabrielle Solis, Vanessa Williams as Renee Perry, Ricardo Antonio Chavira as Carlos Solis, Doug Savant as Tom Scavo, Jonathan Cake as Det. ABC's retro Sunday night soap, PAN AM, finishes the night at 10:01 p.m. ET with "Secrets and Lies."

Fate deals a blow to Dean and Colette's budding romance.

Maggie writes a critical story for the Village Voice against her congressman's politics but doesn't count on falling for him after she submits it; though she wants to resist, the physical attraction between them is undeniable.

Kate finds it hard to move beyond her last spy assignment and is haunted by the repercussions - she faces a fate similar to Bridget's if she cannot fake her way through a lie detector test.

Laura is in a tailspin as Ted thinks he's found the love of his life.



PAN AM stars Christina Ricci as Maggie, Margot Robbie as Laura, Michael Mosley as Ted, Mike Vogel as Dean, Karine Vanasse as Colette and Kelli Garner as Kate.

"Secrets and Lies" was written by Michael Daniels and directed by Allison Liddi-Brown.
