OPINION: The Zip Code's On Fire! AnnaLynne McCord's Naomi Stuck Between The Nerd & The Cowboy on 90210!

Whether you like it or not… here comes my opinion on last night’s 90210.

First of all, we have Zombie Jim, who apparently was lost at sea, but is alive.  He tells Adriana (Jessica Lowndes) he isn’t going to bother his wife Jane (Kristina Agpar) and Liam (Matt Lanter) after learning they are in love, but then he reveals himself to them before the opening credits.  Jane and Liam don’t seem very surprised that Jim is still alive and they also don’t seem very happy about it at all.  I mean, I know he’s an obstacle for your budding romance, but he’s also your dead husband/best friend and he’s ALIVE!  Can somebody have a reaction?  This storyline is playing out to be very lame.

I thought ZJ was gonna stalk them for months and then reveal himself in a horrifying way, or make them think he was haunting them or something.  Instead, he and Liam have a fist fight which results in Jane getting a concussion and going to the hospital.  Jim and Liam make up real quickly.  Jim even rationalizes his friend’s betrayal, saying "in fairness to you, I was dead."

Okay, where are they going with this?  Because if they somehow are building to some three-way relationship where Liam and Jim are best friends who both love Jane and her baby and decide they want to redefine a family together, then that’s something I haven’t seen before and I’ll watch it play out, but if that’s not the road they are going down, then what are they possibly building toward?  Is this storyline already played out and will Jim and Jane be on the next plane to Alaska?   Liam tells Jim "Jane came to me because we were both grieving."   Oh really, Liam?  Then why did no one react when he turned up alive?  No further questions, your honor.

Let’s leave this dreadful threesome and look at a triangle that 90 is getting right:  Naomi/Austin/Max.  Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) is dreaming of Austin (Justin Deeley) while sleeping with Max (Josh Zuckerman).  That’s a bad sign.  But Naomi has grown a lot since we met her and she’s determined to do right by Max.  This is a great storyline because we clearly see that she has deep and real feelings for both men.  With Max, she has a meaningful history and can clearly see a real future.  With Austin, her attraction may be mostly physical, but there is a serious curiosity over whether or not there could be more to it and Naomi has to wonder if she makes more sense with someone like him compared to someone like Max.

Teddy’s (Trevor Donovan) back!  We’ve missed you, buddy.  And he has a guy!  A cute guy, named Shane, who he had a fling with in Barcelona.  I’m really upset that they didn’t show us Teddy coming out to his father, which would have been majorly powerful given their already complex relationship.  90210 has really patted themselves on the back over how they’ve handled their gay storyline, but it’s a lot more half assed than they’d have you believe.

There is a whole big storyline about voter registration where Teddy’s conservative uncle who has a homophobic record wants Teddy to help campaign for him.  Silver (Jessica Stroup) is making a video for Teddy's uncle’s rival (Brandy Norwood) and she’s working with Teddy’s beau Shane.  Shane warns Teddy, "you're a gay man, the choices you make have to make sense."  Later, Teddy turns the tables on Shane, telling him 90% of the time he agrees with his uncle’s way of thinking and accusing Shane of "using ‘gay’ to mean I have to think like you."

This is actually really interesting and it came out of nowhere.  Sure, Teddy wants civil rights as a gay man, but he makes a point that that isn’t 100% of what he’s about in life.  I’m very interested to see where this storyline goes (since I believe Teddy is only in one more episode).  I’m truly willing to bet that Teddy’s uncle will show that he is hateful to the core and Teddy will run to Shane and say he was right all along.  There’s a tiny chance that Shane will run to Teddy and say, I love you even though we believe different things, which let’s be honest, happens everyday in the real world, but very seldom on TV, so I doubt that we’ll see it play out that way.

Teddy stands with his uncle, aunt and cousins at the event.  I would have loved to see Teddy’s aunt and cousins react to Teddy’s presence, but I guess the powers that be weren’t interested in that angle, so they were just played by silent extras.

Annie’s (Shenae Grimes) friend Bree (Cameron Goodman) tells her "you can either hang out with your friends for free or hot guys for money" so Annie decides she’s going escorting!  But then poor Annie gets stuck having to babysit the dreadful Leila (she’s ba-ack!) because Navid (Michael Steger) and Silver are just so damn horny they need to get rid of her!  I guess Annie thinks Leila won’t realize that she’s taking her out escorting, but Leila is the daughter of a kiddie porn maven and the niece of a car thief, so yeah, she catches on real quick.  Annie begs her for her silence and she says she wants a cut.

Meanwhile, Silver discovers Navid’s cut of the stolen car money.  She confronts him and he finally tells her the whole story, she tells him she loves him, but she has to stay with Naomi until he can decide to do what’s right.  I love these two together, but at least this storyline is playing out beat by beat like it should and at least Navid isn’t keeping anything from her any longer.  And at least Silver looked SUPER HOT when she told Navid she wouldn’t be coming home with him.

Cobra Starship performs at Naomi’s voter registration bash.  I love that new 90 carried on old 90’s tradition of featuring current bands.  Adriana gives Cobra Starship’s manager Dixon’s (Tristan Wilds) demo.  I think they are testing the chemistry with these two… and I think I like it!

Austin won't leave Naomi alone and they get locked out of her party.  I guess since there are congressional candidates inside, the secret service is there or something, and they bust them for trying to break in and they stick them in a paddy wagon.  Naomi quips, "do they really think a dangerous subversive could afford a dress like this?"  The paddy wagon is apparently really hot so they both strip down.  Austin says a few sweet things and they almost kiss when Max finds them.  Naomi confesses to sleeping with Austin once when she thought Max was gone for good, but she insist he means nothing to her.  Max seems to believe her.  Austin may even believe her.  But does she believe herself?  You can feel everyone’s emotions rolling off their bodies.  These kids are acting!  And these three are gonna keep us coming back every week as long as they keep turning the heat up like this!!
